Nice Vid. I owned a Vanguard (1965) side galley like yours for 20 years. She was a lovely vessel. Yours looks great. Super sailing! Fair winds!

I restored #266 and enjoyed it and sailed it in storms. Awsome boats. Great sail and video. Congratulations

What a great video, I liked your stepwise explanation of the voyage and the inevitable problem solving necessary to make it to a safe anchorage. All those Alberg boats just keep on going moving with good speed and comfortable motion, you could easily see it in your video.

A very enjoyable vid thank you and congratulations on your accomplishment. Looks like you have an excellent sea boat. Interesting that your Vanguard is probably better suited to crossing an ocean than a lot of modern production boats that might cost several times your boat.

I agree and to be honest, the boat surprised me on this passage. It performs better than I thought it would

Great to see a Vanguard sending it! I've owned #242 for 6 years now and live aboard in South Portland, Maine. I'd appreciate a chat (off youtube) about your install/use/ and thoughts about the Hydrovane. Also your thoughts on the Vanguard in general in terms of her offshore ability. I'm not sure what would be the best way to exchange contacts if you're interested? You are the first person I've ever subscribed to! Thanks for your time and keeping another Vanguard out on the High Seas!

Not a fan of the wing on wing roll. I added an extra day on my return transatlantic return by broad reaching for comfort and 24 hour gybes, but it was totally worth it for the sleep conditions.

I enjoyed #161 for 8yrs. Hobby-horsed a bit in short chop but otherwise a fine boat.

I had a few stops planned but a family emergency has caused me to return to the States, leaving the boat in the Keys

I was in St.Augustine around your departure day. I was wondering how reliable your wind vane is when ocean sailing? Thank you for your video.
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing7 ай бұрын
It's the best piece of equipment I have purchased. It has never lost command of the boat. 100% reliability so far

How did you have your preventer rigged. What type tiller pilot and wind vane do you have? Nice video thank you
@jacktyler75998 ай бұрын
He's using a Hydrovane, to my mind a somewhat surprising choice. This vane has its own steering rudder as opposed to a vanes with a servo oar that is connected via control lines to the boat's steering system (which in this case, would be a tiller).
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing7 ай бұрын
In this video I rigged the preventer to the bowel cleat, the video I made returning I ran the preventer back to the cockpit so I can make adjustments without going forward. I have two tiller Pilots ones an st4000 the other is a heavy-duty model I have not been able to find a model number for. The wind vane is made by hydrovane

Great video ! Are the shrouds covered in bamboo ? I have a Tartan 33 and thinking about Bermuda .

You can purchase them online, I forget the wood type but there turn on the lathe to look like bamboo

instead of that weird bungy thing why not just run a preventer?
@Pearsonvanguard32sailing7 ай бұрын
I had a preventer on it, the bungee was taking up the sack. Thanks for the comment 👍

Nice. I cruised a 1962 ALBERG 35. ALSO VERY CAPABLE BOAT. he’d it in immaculate cruise condition till we had an argument with Hurricane Andrew. Cat 5 storm. Destroyed the boat in port. In Miami.

I looked at a Vanguard some years ago. Nice boat, but it's susceptible to down flooding through cockpit lockers. Chose a Bristol 29.9 instead. Couldn't be happier.
