Entering and finishing Single Leg Takedowns
Single Legs are among the most common takedowns in Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, and MMA. This lesson will cover multiple basic scenarios.
This video pairs well with our previous lesson on Wrestling up from Open Guard vs. A Standing Opponent:
• Wrestle up from Seated...
1️⃣Part one will begin with our first entry where we level change and "snatch" a single leg takedown. This section will also add our first finish for a single leg, the basic "running the pipe" dump. This takedown follows forward, circular momentum.
2️⃣Part two adds the cutback finish into the same momentum pattern when we cannot run the pipe or we simply have a waist grip.
3️⃣Part three forms the game plan of attacking off of backward momentum when we can not use the forward pattern or we choose not to. This is highly tangible with double leg takedowns. The first one will be a low "hands locked" double leg when our partner steps in.
4️⃣Part four offers the high double leg takedown aka "Barsagar" from the same backward momentum. This can be the better choice if you have trouble locking your hands andor your opponent is maintaining good defensive posture.
5️⃣Part five introduces our second entry for a single leg: shooting. Shooting a single leg is a basic skill that should be developed carefully.
6️⃣Part six deals with one of the most common problems with shooting single legs, which is getting sprawled on. We will look at "Shelving" the single leg as a counter to the sprawl.
