I did those same things when I was a single mom years ago. There was one month I had 12 cents left in my bank account at the end of the month, but the rent and bills were paid, we had all the food we needed, and gas in the car. I still do many of those things.

When I was a single Mother, I bought a 8x50 trailer for 2,500. I sold my furniture and picked furniture up off the side of the road that would fit in our home. I was so excited that I found some free paint on the side of the road. I painted mt bathroom with the paint…..It was lime green😅. My son and I were very happy.

Love your list. I'm 59 I take my lunch to work, I have my coffee and breakfast at home. I take snacks to work. You have helped me prep my pantry . thank you. Trying to do all this on my own. I did a no spend for January & February except for Valentine's day I'm taking myself out for dinner. Always love your videos. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💐💐💐💐💐

This has been so informative and I can relate to so many of your saving tips. It seems that so many of my friends want things to be “better” for their children but they are missing out on opportunities to teach them how to manage their money as they raise their families. Thank you.

I’m 55 now and used to do a lot of similar things especially when my kids were younger and we did not have a lot as they got older and things got better I got away from budgeting. But with the economy getting worse and worse every day. I feel it’s getting more important than ever to get back to some things we did back in the day.

In addition to the notebooks I also picked up a measuring tape so I could measure myself and buy clothes ( shop a lot on shein and temu). I also went in my closet and matched up outfits. So I would only buy what I needed

When my mom was alive I tried to do the 3o day no McDonald’s challenge. Day 2 in all the woman in my house had a fit cause they were getting that milky d daily tea. Thinking about getting that going again.

i did almost all the things you listed also to make ends meet. i did not want to leave my babies to go to work and i chose to be a stay at home mom. this meant that i had to find ways to save money and to live on my husbands salary. it was very hard but it was worth being at home with my children until they were school age. and it taught me good skills which i still apply today.

Thank you for this sweetie it was very Interesting and yes I remember when Woman's Day was cheaper. My mom used too get that and Family Circle. I love reading and kept reading those until not too long ago when they got too expansive. Now of course everything is online it is not the same though. Take care

Did take me down memory lane. I still do a lot of those. But I had forgotten about .99 hotdogs and the .99 magazine treat. Being creative is a blessing. Give me a needle and thread, super glue and duct tape and I can fix about anything. 😂 Like you I still cut and color my hair and was disturbed that my color went up a dollar at Walmart to 4.97!

Ana you are like me anyone gave me broken jewelry I would make new earrings necklaces bracelets ect you are so much like me Girl OMG love that in you. I was a single parent as well and did those simular things as well finally I found a lady like myself made me so very happy. I never turned down old jewelry but now in the Goodwill they charge a lot for a bag or jar of that type of jewelry it is expensive.

Do not get solar panels. For what you will save on electricity versus how much they cost it will take YEARS to equal each other.

Our heat is at 64F, but we live in Northern California, and it’s not as cold outside. I’m an ice queen. Now when it’s over 100 in the summer, I have to run the air usually 72-74.

I would dye some of my old clothes and starch them. Change some buttons to make them look different. Walked almost everywhere. I lived in NYC and go to the pantry. Had my friend/neighbor stay with my children while they slept so that i could go look for empty soda bottles. Big glass bottles 10 cents, small ones 5 cents. After getting paid from work and paying rent, utilities, food and transportation to work I would take kids to park, free kids programs and Bronx Zoo on free days. In summer public pools, beach all the while taking public transportation. Friends would bring their children do i would babysit in my apartment. Used this extra money for my children. I have 3 boys 1 girl. Wore alot of T-shirts (still do) that my children would use also. Would pop popcorn, make my own potato chips by cutting the potato really thin. I would get old Italian bread from bakery or supermarket and would sprinkle water & put it in oven. Hot bread and butter with coffee for me for dinner so kids could have something for lunch the next day. I made a big pot of rice which we ate with fried eggs on t top. Still do that. Wonder bread had a store that sold discounted items. Got kids goodies and bread. Bread was used for sandwiches, toast, french toast. Bought items from Salvation army.

For hair you can go to a local beauty school and get all kinds of services. Me. My daughter and mom would go a couple times a year. The students do a great job. They are already trained and just need training time. The teacher there to assist. The cost is cheap. Haircut 2 dollars perm 4o etc etc. you just pay for supplies. Also a lot of career colleges offer car repair similar programs

When market was right, I jumped in and bought my townhouse for $100k. Bought ot basic and doing update/upgrade projects as I can. Do not turn on heat in winter (in FL). Keep AC at temp just to be comfortable during summer months. I am a 1 check/person house, and I am trying to be a cost effective as I can. Even before Trump came in office. I bring breakfast/lunch. If I forget, I just wait til I get home and eat. 😊
