Yup, more at play than width in this comparison. With these two compared models, the dually is both longer overall as well as wider in the rear. Of course the dually is a bit harder to maneuver.

I used to frequent that Burger King back in the day when I worked at the Chase Bank in Gunbarrel. I have a 2019 Ram 3500 Mega Cab dually and it’s a pain in the ass to find parking spaces for it. I took it out to Vegas in October and found it easier to valet it. The valets understand it’s too big for most of the garages there, so they just park it out front with the other lifted trucks and Ferrari’s.

I went with the long bed super crew F-350 single rear wheel for my work truck. I've lost 10 pounds already from having to park in the back of the lot and walk into a store. They will do something silly like a 0-60 race with one brands single cab pit against another brands extended/double cab or one with 4WD and one with 2WD and act like that is a fair comparison in acceleration or towing capacity. When towing and hauling all the time, dually is the only way to go. It’s just like semi trucks, there is a reason nobody likes the super wide single tires and prefers the normal dual wheels. When single tires blow, your day is done. With dual wheels you can still drive around for awhile...

@@jessaphillips2846 actually not true. It's not so much about weight as it is stability. I hauled with a single wheel one ton when I first started. I hauled some relatively light loads around 10k - 15k pounds that were high sided loads. In the crosswinds it was very unstable. The same cannot be said for duallys in that same instance but, what do I know, I only have over 2 million miles of experience.

@zfilmmaker
@zfilmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you live. Will you be dealing with snow or mud? If you answered yes to any or both, a dually is not for you. I used to have mud and snow cake up in between the dually’s and I’d always loose traction if I didn’t have weight in the bed over the rear axle. Dually’s also don’t handle well down the highway unless there’s weight on the rear axle. Going to a super single conversion solves all those problems. I currently own a 2020 Lariat F550 SWB with a DBL Customs stage 2 conversion including their ProRock 80 front axle and locker and CTIS. Having owned several dually’s in the past this is the best tow rig I’ve owned. I pull a 24’ gooseneck livestock trailer or a 32’ or 40’ gooseneck flatbed typically for big square bales somewhere totaling 34k lbs up and down steep roads and down the highway and the super singles handle better then any dually. Quite frankly I can’t figure why anyone would want a dually anymore.
@cliffcampbell8827
@cliffcampbell8827 4 жыл бұрын
Changing a flat on the inner wheel has one more problem vs. single and you can't get anything stuck between the wheels if you don't have a dually. Both types are great trucks for what they're designed for, just be sure you're getting what you want and everything that comes with it.

To make make this more fair, they should have gotten a 3500 single rear wheel, as the 3500 SRW can also have an 8-foot bed with the crew cab; that would've leveled the playing field a lot more. As far as my take on 1-ton duallys, they made a lot more sense years ago when trucks were more reasonably sized [and priced] & not the obnoxious behemoths that they have become today. I dare say, if you need dual rear wheels for towing reasons, you are better off just simply getting the 4500 pickup at that point, especially because that wider front axle gives it a better turning radius. The other reason I advise that is because on a 3500, ESPECIALLY, if you want 4-wheel-drive as well, you have to pay quite a lot to upgrade to dual rear wheels; you will simply pay extra on that 3500 dually for what comes standard on a 4500 pickup. I feel the same holds true for Ram's 3500 dually, as well as Ford's F-350 dually.

I don’t think most commenters here understand what is going on here. This is not a capability test. This is a daily “non truck stuff” livability test. Fact is most people buying these big expensive trucks use them as commuters/daily Drivers most of the time. This video perfectly illustrates some of the real world issues you have to deal with when you have a large truck. Personal example of daily driving a dually. I had a F350 Crew Cab, Long Bed dually that I used to haul my camper and a golf cart and my family. We went to a movie and I parked the beast out in the back-40 of the parking lot all by itself. Well, the beast didn’t stay alone and after the movie cars had parked all around it just about trapping it in. It literally took me 17 times pulling forward a little and backing up a little while turning to get out. My wife and 2 young kids really thought we were stuck. I never had many problems with drive-thru and parking. Most of it is just in the set up... plan ahead and don’t drive and park it like it’s a sedan.

Which crew cab diesel has the absolute highest payload SRW? As better tires are developed, that can cash heavier loads is it possible we’ll see even heavier payload numbers for SRW.... or am I thinking wrong? I’m assuming the reason payloads are greater on the dually is based on having 4 tires rather than 2. Or is the payload also a component of width?

Now show a test with a dually 4500 or 5500. They have wide front axels with far better turning radiuses. May even beat that 2500. That will be my nest truck but I get by just fine in my 12 ft flatbed dually. I just park further back and if the drive thru is too cramped, I just park and go in to order. I prefer that anyway. I get to choose the perfect amount of ice in my drink and I grab all the taco bell sauce I want.

Just like previous comments of stated I feel like this is more of a long bed vs. Short bed debate. I have a 99 F350 5 speed crew cab long bed dually I can put it anywhere I need it to be even with a trailer on it I take it through drive-thrus all the time. Really when you buy a dually you buy it to do a job and you do have to take the drawbacks but I have to say towing with a dual rear wheel vs single rear wheel I'll always take Duallys now because the wind doesn't affect it very much and it just feels so stable even though it's 30 years old LOL. As far as parking is concerned most spaces where I live I can park just fine but I always back in so that I can see you when I go to pull out versus having to back out some went blind for a minute because the truck is so long.

6-ft bed (i.e. SWB) vs 8-ft bed (LWB) comparison? Should have used LWB for comparison of turning radius.

OK, few points... The Dully HD has a longer wheel base, so yes it will have a longer turning radius (this is just one factor out of many that determine radius) Also the suspension setup for the AT4 is going to be softer for the "off-road" ability of the truck VS the payload and towing capacity of the HD truck. Lastly, most people who opt for the higher cost of the HD truck plus the dual rear wheel package probably need the payload capacity gains, and are not looking for a "macho" look. The trade off is slightly less usability on the road when not working/hauling. The premise of the video is weird to me, because you are comparing apples to bananas at this point.

As someone who has had both many times, I honestly prefer the SRW overall. If you're getting a camper that's over 3500 lbs. on the pin and/or 18,000 lbs. total, you'd probably have to get a dually. But for me, I didn't care for driving my 2017 F450 around running errands and such. Hauling our toy hauler, it was great. But my 2015 F350 SRW I originally had did just as good a job pulling that same camper.

would really like to know what length/weight your camper was which pulled the same for both trucks. doing research and and your opinion could save me some money lol

@@nickisabelle724 We've actually sold that truck and camper since this last comment. But the camper itself was a 2016 Vengeance 40D12. The pin weight was getting close to 3500 lbs. It was a triple axle toy hauler at around 44'. When we bought it, I had a 2015 F350 SRW with air bags and 3.55 axle. It actually pulled it very well. We even took it to Disneyworld from NC. I'm a very experienced driver and have an extensive history of towing heavy equipment. But if I were to throw my opinions into this highly discussed topic, I'd say a pin weight of around 3000 lbs is where I'd start to consider a dually. I personally would never consider a dually if the pin weight was anywhere under 3000 lbs.

I am lucky enouh to have two trucks. 2011 Ford Raptor as my daily driver and a 2012 Chevy 3500 Duramax Dually as my work / tow vehicle. Love them both. By the way, the dually is also a very nice truck for a truck camper.

it was a fun test, but the only relevent test was the drive-thru, different wheelbase negated the turn test and off-road vs load rated rear springs negated the ride (did mr truck approve this test).
@lordrichard8184
@lordrichard8184 4 жыл бұрын
I think to really do the full test you’d also have to include a 3500 srw with an 8’ bed and a 4500. Really this test should be between a 3500 srw and dually. I know with Ford it’s possible to get a 250 that can only pull 12k when fully loaded. Which is less then what some 150s will pull. It’s all about the sticker on that particular trucks door. And a 3500 srw will always have more payload then a 2500

All about the suspension and chassis, they share engines so obviously if you're comparing apples to apples like long bed srw from both 2500 & 3500 with the same engine the 3500 will be more capable and have stiffer suspension

another example of why i dont visit tfl truck much anymore. comparing a short and long wheel base and complaining about the longs ability to turn. it would be like buying a plastic spray bottle and a gas powered pressure washer to water your house plants. now the bottle makes life easy and can go anywhere, (short). where as the pressure washer (long) takes some time to set up and will generally get the job done but just make a mess for this use. why would i want to bring a dually or "pressure washer" through a drive through or to a simple task like watering house plants. i have had a 2000 chevy crew cab 3500 long bed single rear wheel and i currently have a 2001 chevy crew cab long bed 3500 dually and while there is a noticeable difference in ride quality i would still take the dually. long wheel base trucks were never meant for city drive thruoghs, even then i have taken mine through on occasion and never have i ever worried about scuffing a tire or just outright hopped over a curb to make the turn, its a truck!. tfl truck used to be just about the truck and what it does and how well it did it. you have become this channel that just compares "a" to "b" and then complains that "a" cant do "b", because "a" was never meant to do "b". get back to just showing us what the truck can do, complaining about which truck has more usb ports or which dumb phone only fits in whatever wireless charging console is just stupid. i used to come here every week and see what is new but over the last year it has been maybe every other month, when im really bored. i cant take any more of the petty crap, it used to been fun but i'll un-sub . thanks
