It depends on where you live. Will you be dealing with snow or mud? If you answered yes to any or both, a dually is not for you. I used to have mud and snow cake up in between the dually’s and I’d always loose traction if I didn’t have weight in the bed over the rear axle. Dually’s also don’t handle well down the highway unless there’s weight on the rear axle. Going to a super single conversion solves all those problems. I currently own a 2020 Lariat F550 SWB with a DBL Customs stage 2 conversion including their ProRock 80 front axle and locker and CTIS. Having owned several dually’s in the past this is the best tow rig I’ve owned. I pull a 24’ gooseneck livestock trailer or a 32’ or 40’ gooseneck flatbed typically for big square bales somewhere totaling 34k lbs up and down steep roads and down the highway and the super singles handle better then any dually. Quite frankly I can’t figure why anyone would want a dually anymore.

I don’t think most commenters here understand what is going on here. This is not a capability test. This is a daily “non truck stuff” livability test. Fact is most people buying these big expensive trucks use them as commuters/daily Drivers most of the time. This video perfectly illustrates some of the real world issues you have to deal with when you have a large truck. Personal example of daily driving a dually. I had a F350 Crew Cab, Long Bed dually that I used to haul my camper and a golf cart and my family. We went to a movie and I parked the beast out in the back-40 of the parking lot all by itself. Well, the beast didn’t stay alone and after the movie cars had parked all around it just about trapping it in. It literally took me 17 times pulling forward a little and backing up a little while turning to get out. My wife and 2 young kids really thought we were stuck. I never had many problems with drive-thru and parking. Most of it is just in the set up... plan ahead and don’t drive and park it like it’s a sedan.

To make make this more fair, they should have gotten a 3500 single rear wheel, as the 3500 SRW can also have an 8-foot bed with the crew cab; that would've leveled the playing field a lot more. As far as my take on 1-ton duallys, they made a lot more sense years ago when trucks were more reasonably sized [and priced] & not the obnoxious behemoths that they have become today. I dare say, if you need dual rear wheels for towing reasons, you are better off just simply getting the 4500 pickup at that point, especially because that wider front axle gives it a better turning radius. The other reason I advise that is because on a 3500, ESPECIALLY, if you want 4-wheel-drive as well, you have to pay quite a lot to upgrade to dual rear wheels; you will simply pay extra on that 3500 dually for what comes standard on a 4500 pickup. I feel the same holds true for Ram's 3500 dually, as well as Ford's F-350 dually.

OK, few points... The Dully HD has a longer wheel base, so yes it will have a longer turning radius (this is just one factor out of many that determine radius) Also the suspension setup for the AT4 is going to be softer for the "off-road" ability of the truck VS the payload and towing capacity of the HD truck. Lastly, most people who opt for the higher cost of the HD truck plus the dual rear wheel package probably need the payload capacity gains, and are not looking for a "macho" look. The trade off is slightly less usability on the road when not working/hauling. The premise of the video is weird to me, because you are comparing apples to bananas at this point.

As someone who has had both many times, I honestly prefer the SRW overall. If you're getting a camper that's over 3500 lbs. on the pin and/or 18,000 lbs. total, you'd probably have to get a dually. But for me, I didn't care for driving my 2017 F450 around running errands and such. Hauling our toy hauler, it was great. But my 2015 F350 SRW I originally had did just as good a job pulling that same camper.

@@nickisabelle724 We've actually sold that truck and camper since this last comment. But the camper itself was a 2016 Vengeance 40D12. The pin weight was getting close to 3500 lbs. It was a triple axle toy hauler at around 44'. When we bought it, I had a 2015 F350 SRW with air bags and 3.55 axle. It actually pulled it very well. We even took it to Disneyworld from NC. I'm a very experienced driver and have an extensive history of towing heavy equipment. But if I were to throw my opinions into this highly discussed topic, I'd say a pin weight of around 3000 lbs is where I'd start to consider a dually. I personally would never consider a dually if the pin weight was anywhere under 3000 lbs.

Sooo in order to air up the inner tire on the dually u have to take off the outer wheel first...seems like alot of work with a dually

Have you seen the new speed limit signs? They say "Speed limit 65, Chevys-do the best you can" Thats not a leak, my Chevy's just marking its territory. Buy a Chevy and you buy the best. Drive the first mile and walk the rest. I could never keep a Chevy under me, I was always under the Chevy. Speed Kills, Drive a Chevy and live forever.

6-ft bed (i.e. SWB) vs 8-ft bed (LWB) comparison? Should have used LWB for comparison of turning radius.

it was a fun test, but the only relevent test was the drive-thru, different wheelbase negated the turn test and off-road vs load rated rear springs negated the ride (did mr truck approve this test).

I prefer dually trucks, they look awesome and badass, and those trucks can carry heavier things. I think duallys are safer than the single rear wheel trucks
