If you make it as long as your forearm and use a proper sturdy key ring, you can use this just like nunchucks and basically smash someone's face with your keys.

Do the two loops communicate? In other words, does the cord slide through the cobra knot so that the size of the loops can adjust?

It actually may slide - the loop isn't locked by something, but if you have tighten those knots hard enough, it doesn't, I tried it out.
