Thanks for the lesson Chris. May I ask at what tempo you perform the etude at full speed, to have something to practice towards? Also, do you think it would be a good idea to practice this starting on an upstroke to get used to the downstroke escape motion and the different pickslant that comes with it, or do you think vertical 3NPS exercises would be a more efficient way to practice upward escape motion? I typically prefer the Yngwie/zakk wylde slant at high speeds, but I can also use the opposite pickslant when ascending the strings since there is no inside picking, but struggle with downstroke escape motion when I'm descending the strings and have to go through inside picking at high speeds.

Hey, thanks for the detailed comment. I'm playing it here at 165 just to keep it in the realms of intermediate speeds but in personal practice I'd probably push up to about 220bpm. For downward escape picking, there are a few strategies you could employ. 1. Someone like Vinnie Moore would most likely just rotate into supination for the last note of each string and then resume downward escape on the next string. You could also 2. Do the last note or two on each string as pull-offs to give yourself more time to change strings 3. Lead with upstrokes and pick every note opposite to what's written. 3 is probably the trickier option but I'm always up for a challenge.

Using wrist supination/pronation on the last stroke to avoid constantly changing slanting I considered before but never tried to actively put into practice because I hadn't heard it being mentioned before. Thanks for the tip man! Looking forward to next week's lesson.@@ChrisBrooksGuitar

What kind of settings do you have in your amp/pedals to have that long sustain?
@ChrisBrooksGuitar11 ай бұрын
Just moderate drive with a tube screamer type boost in front. Of course, the guitar also needs to be set up for good sustain.

this is sweet just gotta work on the string change, to make quicker and more natural
@ChrisBrooksGuitar11 ай бұрын
If it helps, isolate the last six notes of each string along with the first note of the next string and make that a separate drill. That way you can focus on the transition between strings.
