Interesting. I've never seen a time step taught with the hop traveling backward. Typically, the hop is done in place and the first step goes in the back.

We do tap springs as the warmup, its a brush then you spring on to it (leap over on to the other foot)

a tap spring is very similar to a "tip change" move in Irish dancing but the biggest difference is a tap spring is done on both feet

Greetings! Could you look up the routine from Singin' in The Rain called Fit as a Fiddle? Once Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor get into the dance they start their time steps. Now, I have always thought they are both doing triple time steps. I looked at Gene very closely in normal speed and 0.5 speed and noticed Gene is doing a single time step. Donald O'Connor is doing a Triple Time Step for sure because I can clearly see his shuffle. I have also thought that Gene could also be doing a triple time step but just shuffling to the front rather than the side. But as I look at it closely I believe Gene is doing a single time step. Could you watch it and clarify for me and shoot me a reply to this comment? Thank you so much!

You are correct Gene starts with 2 single time steps.

Hey! love the way you teach!! Looking at your "traditional" time step, I originally learned from someone that has that first step a "stomp," where you have a flap...is there a difference in regular or traditional? thanks!!

I call the one you are referring to a "buck single time step" but 99% of the tapping population just refers to that version (the stomp version) as a single time step. I'm clearly in the minority here, but I wanted to demonstrate both versions so people would know there are other versions. :)

that's British double time step variation I think are you sure it isn't shuffle hop tap spring (right foot) tap ball change (left foot) shuffle hop tap spring (left foot) tap ball change (right foot) shuffle hop tap spring (right foot) shuffle step (left foot) shuffle step (right foot) shuffle ball change (left foot) that's a variation on a double time step and a break or at least here in the UK it is (a toe tap in place of the tap spring is perfectly acceptable as well)
