Over the years I've been fortunate enough to drive plenty of BMW vehicles. From a supercharged BMW E36 M3 to the BMW i8, they always have a sense of confidence many other brands can't achieve. Today we drive this BMW E36 328is with a M52 engine swap and Borg Warner single turbo. This five year project on the surface looks very simple but has completely reworked suspension, bushings, and a sticky tire setup all on this ugly duckling of a car! With the turbo sticking out of the hood I knew this was going to be an amazing time. Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday!

ya, Sleepers are essentially stock looking cars. Gutted interiors, race seats and turbos sticking out of the hood kinda miss the mark in the "sleeper" world.. Sleepers are stock cars until you look under the hood. Still a cool car

It's very hard to get a top mount turbo to fit under the hood for the m5x/s5x engines because the engine is angled 30° towards the exhaust side shock tower (not much room on the exhaust side). But yea this car has a huge cutout in the hood, mine has a lot smaller of a hood cut out

boosted m52's are soooo good. Properly sized turbos (not gigantic) make the motor just wake up so much.

I have an e36 328is with a built motor turbonetics 6266 miller war chip with 660cc injectors and their MAF. South bend stage 2 clutch z4 shift kit. LSD, 255/40/17 all 4 corners. 14.5 psi 450 whp

Mr. G the rears do not. The front did a wee bit but it was just on that inner fender lip. Smash that flat I’ve had no issues. I don’t remember back spacing. 15mm spacer up front though D force ltw5 wheels.

Drew Bond plus 14.5 for me is my lowest boost setting I have. I’ve essentially have the car built for 20psi but don’t feel like the car needs that much boost though.

I’ve got a turbo e36 aswell g35-900. Link ecu. And I absolutely love it too. I also did all of my suspension and brakes over the course of 5 years. Solid bushings. Stainless lines. Reinforced everything. Ditched the divorced coil setup for a mono setup. Adjustable upper and lower control arms. I’m just about to get retuned but 22RPD and hopefully push to 550-600whp (made 450@14psi before on a GT3582R)

Loads of people on the forums have done similar build for about 6-8k so I'd say it's budget friendly considering regular people spend twice that buying an accord or an odyssey. Edit: Not with an e46 m3 6 speed tho, that alone costs a lot of money, but the stock zf 5 speeds can handle way more power than this car makes.

E36 ride amazing if you replace all the suspension and diff bushings then add some nice coilovers. With a good tire set up you can get some speed up on the track on a stock motor.

M52 is the code for late 328 and 323ti engines. Same 2,5 as the older 325 but with a restricted inlet manifold. This means the 328 makes the same hp als a 325 and the 323ti has 170hp instead of 200 like a 325 just because of the inlet manifold

M52 is from the 328 so it’s not a swap. Also the s52 out of the m3 is just a bored out m52. Both equally as good for boost. Also SMG is the Sequential Manual Gearbox aka an automatic so it’s not what you’re shifting lol.

smg transmission from the e46? no. If it was an SMG then it was converted with the bell housing to a manual. If its super hard to get into gear then somethings screwed up with the clutch or shifter..because its a stock getrag 420g transmission

Aren't the bmw gearboxes the same gear ratio 1-5 in the e36 and e46 petrols? Unless he's using the 6th gear and/or the feel is WAY better in the e46 box it seems to me like he just spent some unneeded money 🤷‍♂️ BUT, not my car and he's always now got an expense box to sell to raise some funds if needed 🤷‍♂️

Soooo the 328 probably is even more significant to Bmw than the (e36) M3. The 328 line of cars specifically are a multi generation long class wining car for bmw, that has been their sports car base line for almost 100 years now (1936 and on}. Just something you should know; Also the m52 IS out of the 328i e36.. In addition to being the 2.8L used in the E39 and Z3 of that era.

😂 He hit it about 1/3 of the way down the on-ramp by Towers. I won’t say how fast we were going for legal reasons. But by the end of the ramp we were doing about 10mph more than I can get out of my m3 there, in 2/3 the distance.
