I'd say it has more to do with her being an introvert. I don't know what was so difficult to understand about what Ela was saying. She's saying that if he doesn't have the things on her list, then he's basically only as good as her toys. Deja is lonely and needs respite as well as companionship. I was 31 taking care of 2 grandparents. Grandfather passed the same year I was getting married. They were married 59 years. Deja has a more intricate and complex situation with an autistic sibling and 3 children in the mix (the first born is questionable in the aspect of how the child was conceived). She seems quite exhausted and needs a break.
