Thank you, Sue. That is so kind of you to say, and comments such as yours make the videos so rewarding. The weather was awful during February and since filming Singleton, any free time we had to walk and film has been awful too! We could film in the rain but it is not much fun, and flying the drone is not possible. We are pleased you enjoyed watching.

A lovely walk - thank you! It's great to see the spring flowers, and soon everything will be turning green and I wish I could be there to see it. You bird videography is terrific, and catching the skylark on the ground was a bonus. I used to love watching them in the air, but never really caught sight of one on the ground except in the distance.

Thank you for your kind comments, Jim. After almost a month of rain in February, it did us good to have the perfect weather for such a lovely walk. Perhaps one day you will be able to return. The skylarks are so well camouflaged when on the ground; they can be less than 10 metres away, and are only visible when they fly away! We have recently added to our kit with a 1.4x teleconverter, which extends the reach. Just in case you are camera/tech inclined, we use a 100-400mm zoom. The camera is full frame but we switch it to APS-C for distant shots which gives a crop of 1.5x. Add in the 1.4x teleconverter, we have a max focal length of 840mm. For use on tripod or monopod only!

Thanks for the technical information. I used to be a professional photographer many years ago, but equipment has moved on tremendously since those days. I still take an interest, however, and certainly a lens set-up like that could not be used without a solid support, even if the camera has good stabilisation. These days I stick mainly to video, and my KZbin channel, while less professionally filmed and edited than yours, has over 2,000 videos. I hope you carry on with your great productions.

@@JimNicholls I believe you mentioned, on a previous video, you were once a photographer for the West Sussex Gazette. You certainly have much content on your channel and it looks like a lot of fun! In the past, I have had a few kites, and found flying them was great escape from reality! We hope to be able to get out for more walks this year and perhaps go further afield.

I loved the lark plummeting to the ground! They are so hard to spot in the sky & their song is beautiful- they do expend a lot of energy. If our lark doesn’t show up this year I think it will be 3 years that we haven’t seen it. Was it just chance that you captured it? The river was running so full! A good capture of the bumblebee & the honeybee together! I saw our kite today- he/she did go missing but is back.( am sure someone feeds it) That did have the look of the perfect English village! Thanks so much!

Thank you for your comments, Diana. Whilst we had been watching the larks for a while, repeatedly climbing and diving, capturing the actual dive in that way was luck. All the other attempts to follow the diving through the air had failed! Something we learned from this walk is just how much the larks sing when on the ground; we had always thought the song was mainly when airborne, but clearly this is not the case. Sadly, we have lost much of the skylark population locally due to massive housing development and the consequential loss of habitat. At one stage on the walk, we could see around seven Red kites at the same time and it was difficult to choose which to focus on!

Thank you for the reply! Like you,I thought larks only sang when on the wing!- mainly because it would draw predators to them when on the ground & vulnerable. I must say ‘our lark’ only sang when in the air- perhaps the song didn’t travel when on the ground as there was a row of houses in between us! When you go to the Chilterns,the skies are riven with kites- how they all manage to find food is puzzling! A village near us that had none now has at least 3!They are everywhere we travel! Thanks for a lovely video.
