이번 전시에서 한지의 가변성 그리고 광학 필름을 활용한 평면과 설치작품들을 선보이게 됩니다.
In this exhibition, I will present flat and installation works that utilize the malleability of Hanji and optical film.
저의 작품의 시작은 먼저 원료를 준비하는 것에서 시작합니다.
My work begins with the preparation of raw materials.
곱게 푼 닥나무 섬유와 닥풀을 혼합해서 망사 틀 위에 흘리고 건조해 원하는 형상, 다시 말해 풍경을 만들어 갑니다.
I mix finely ground Paper mulberry fiber and dakpul, spill it on a mesh mold, and dry it to create the desired shape, or landscape.
이때 닥나무 섬유를 먹이나 쪽물로 물들이고 닥풀의 농도를 조절해서 표현 재료로 사용하는데, 저에게 ‘한지’는 그림이나 글씨의 바탕 재료가 아닌 그 자체가 하나의 오브제로 작용하게 됩니다.
At this time, I dye the oak fibers with ink or indigo and adjust the concentration of the dakpul to use it as an expression material, and for me, 'hanji' becomes an object in itself, not just a base material for painting or writing.
그리고 한지 닥섬유 원료로 만들어 낸 풍경들을 광학필름을 겹쳐서 준비한 바탕화면에 배치합니다. 광학필름으로 조성한 바탕화면은 지료, 먹, 쪽빛 등으로 표현한 풍경들에 다채로운 시각적 효과를 부여합니다.
Then, I place the landscapes made with hanji dak fiber raw materials on the desktop prepared by layering optical film. The optical film gives a colorful visual effect to the landscapes made of paper mulberry pulp, ink, and indigo.
풍경은 일기의 변화에 따라 시시각각으로 변화하고, 그것을 바라보는 우리의 감정도 변화합니다. 걸음을 옮길 때마다 스쳐 지나가는 형형색색의 풍경이 나의 창을 통해 생동하는 모습으로 보였으면 좋겠습니다.
The landscape changes over time as the weather changes, and so do our emotions as we look at it. I want to see my window come alive with colorful landscapes that pass me by with every step I take.
