This case got to me on a visceral level. I watched all the interrogations a long time ago. The 3 adults are absolutely abhorrent monsters. This poor child literally jumped through an upstairs glass window, injuring himself in the process of course, in a desperate attempt to save himself and escape at one point, and the state just kept sending him back there to his "Dad". They just failed him repeatedly. Everyone failed him repeatedly. There aren't words in the english language to properly describe what happened to this little boy, because its just THAT awful.

This is the worst torture & murder of a child who actually jumped out of a 2nd story window at one point to escape the torture & call attention to his plight. No One helped him! Not anyone in the child protection system helped this boy who jumped out of a 2nd story window to try to save himself & the law put him right back with the people who were killing him. His parents & the system meant to help him killed this boy! That’s the bottom line & sadly he’s not the only one.

I noticed that this stepmum never says anything nice about Takoda when the detective asks her to talk about him. Normally, a parent (and she was in the role of one) would have a lot to say about their child, no matter the behavioural problems the child reportedly had. She'd be talking about his likes, his hobbies, the sports he played or liked, the toys he loved... the funny things he'd say. But no, the first thing this woman mentions is how dad was in a custody battle and then describing how difficult Takoda was for her and her partner. He would have had a personality completely separate from his bad behaviour. Not once was any of this mentioned. She could have just said that he was intelligent even despite his difficulties with school, but there was none of that. Even in death, this woman felt the need to put him down.

In her mind, she was trying to make the detective see how difficult he was. An excuse on why he might be homeschooled, marks on his body, or whatever bad things happened to him. It was not even on her radar that the detective was asking about Takoda and not her excuses. Then she tries her best to distance herself from him. "I don't see him". "I don't see his body". I agree. When I originally heard his story, I had to watch and hear it in pieces, because I wanted to turn away. It is so awful, so egregious, and I was so emotionally shook and angry that I just couldn't process it all at once. And I watch true crime every day, trying to figure out what makes someone become a monster. But his story deserves to be heard, as awful as it is. And the only way to prevent another Takoda from happening is to acknowledge it and address the failures. Poor baby 😢

A big problem with home schooling is that only the parents have to attend meetings with officials, not their kids. Any child being home schooled should by law be required to meet with officials at least 3 - 4 times a year to ensure they're not being kept home as a form of abuse or to hide abuse.

@greydovegardens7688

I would suggest having the state enact laws where homeschool children are registered with the state and monitored (annual required checkups with a pediatrician, testing, etc). As a homeschooling mom, I wouldn't have a problem with that. However, I am certain that abusers would not comply and move from state to state to avoid detection. Even if there were laws against homeschooling, there still would be these sickos that hold children captive and isolated in their homes. My children went on to college. One got her degree in Architecture and the other one is a senior majoring in piano performance. Homeschooling doesn't necessarily mean being undereducated or unsocialized.
