Attn.: Helge, Their feather step is still smooth and continuous, not a “stoppage step”. With regard to “invading the next bar”, at this level of ballroom dancing, using “Rubato” is not only tolerable but even expected to enhance the performance, and to reflect the couple’s specific artistic style. The original idea of foxtrot was rhythmical walking, using effortless, smooth and progressive movements. This is what the Sinkinsons did on this video, in perfect harmony between the partners; and did it beautifully. Andrew Sinkinson was a World and European Amateur Standard champion, as well as three times Blackpool Standard Champion. Obviously, the highly qualified judges did not value the couple’s performance as “very bad” or “disappointing”. By the way, Andrew's nickname was: The King of Foxtrot.

The music is too fast for true slow foxtrot, more like an American smooth dance at 31 beat/minute. But Andrew slowed it down with a bit HOLD to make it elegant like a true slow foxtrot.

Thanks for the response! Perhaps a bit of mixed feeling on why so many capable dance people could perform slow foxtrot very well, yet few are ready to list out the figure names for the steps for this video by our King of Slow Foxtrot.

This to me is a very bad foxtrot ruining the timing and the flow. They use the 1-2 count for a preparation step !!!! Thus the feather step becomes, not a light feather, but a stoppage step, awkward out of time with the music. And invading feather step into the next bar. As a professional dance teacher I am extremely disappointed.

@@seasons1974 hi stacie. Actually I think he is not, he commented on a waltz of Andrew and Lorraine's very positively. I honestly think he just doesn't have any understanding of the term "jazz" at all. He obviously just doesn't have the creativity, courage or curiosity to like someone playing with the music right now. @helgechristoferson just try it bro! Let your self go for a change, and try not to think too much in boxes! Cheers dance fellows

Disagree. I see the prep step, but we've seen a lot of other great couples like the Hiltons do the exact same. To me, Andrew and Lorraine still are the superior foxtroters of all time, and this is a perfect example of their artistry.

As I hear this music, the preparation step on the first two notes of the saxophone is on 7-8, a musical anacrusis. So the feather step is correctly placed within a musical bar.
