I own a Damasko DS30 yellow seconds and a Sinn 856 UTC. As a daily wear watch, my DS30 is my favorite. I own a construction business, so my watches need to be able to take some abuse and have excellent quick legibility. The Damasko is such a good bang for buck watch and very underrated imo. I prefer the longer hour hand of the Damasko and the more pronounced minute track for quick time reference when I am on a phone call or checking the calendar. As an actual "tool" for quick time reference when working in a fast-paced environment, the DS30 has risen to the top of my collection as a daily wear tool watch.

I recently Picked a Damasko DS30 with a Green second hand. I love wearing it and have had no issues. Also the case is made from submarine steel which apparently is harder than normal 316L stainless steel. Don't quote me on that I'm not sure. But the case has gone through a surface hardening process by damasko. I was going too buy a Sinn 556A RS but it's price was too expensive as Sinn has raised it's prices. I managed to pickup the Damsko in a sale on first class watches recently. It was delivered earlier too so I was happy. Also the case proportions of the Damasko fit better in my 6.75 inch wrist. I think the lines on the dial work well with the big hands as they help it be more legible to read.

I've owned the DS30 for a year, and I absolutely love that watch. It is extremely well built and everything just "works" on it; as others have said the crown mechanism is awesome. I think the Sinn 556i may be the "prettier" watch (the hashes on the DS might be a little too big/wide or something, can't quite describe it), but the DS30 has become my favorite grab and go watch - there's just something really bad ass about it, and I love wearing it and admiring the case and its texture. Not one single sratch on my DS. Looks perfect after one year of very heavy use.

Hi Barry, this is a good one! These are clearly excellent watches, and to me each has different strengths and weaknesses: the Sinn dial has better proportions, but the hands are too short. I prefer the Sinn crown and overall finish. So the watches themselves vary only in detail, and one's taste will determine a preference. The Sinn is a much better purchase though: the excellent TWR Watch Repairs can handle all servicing and warranty claims here in the UK, and they hold a stock of service parts. Damaskos need to go back to Germany, and just the cost of that will elevate a final service invoice, and this doesn't take into account any extra time that might be involved. So for me there will only ever be one conclusion until Damasko appoints a UK service centre. Thanks a lot Barry, you done good mate. VG Bob 🥂🍾

@ClickSpringReview Ah... but you do get a choice of dial colours, finishes and indices with the Sinn... However, you're right on target when you query whether either of these can be considered entry level... It's the same with the Muhle Panova...

Hi Barry, great video and one i have been looking forward to. I think the 556 just edges it for me. The overall look and easy to repair case edges it. DS30 is surface hardened submarine steel. So it will be very similar to Sinn tegiment steel, just more resistance to seawater. The ice hardened damasko's have less scratch resistance i believe but are harder overall against dents...not that ive ever really known a watch to dent...
@ClickSpringReview15 күн бұрын
Hi Adam I've emailed Damasko asking about this because this as there is so confusion, turns out this model isn't ice harden but harden in another way, I ce Harden models have a rating of 700Hv hardness Tegiment models have 1200/1800Hv and also are made of Submarine steel. I believe its still surface deep but not the exact thickness but will try and find out 👍🏻
@ClickSpringReview13 күн бұрын
Hi Adan I've had an email back from Damasko and turns out there submarine Steel models have a Hardness of around 1000/1500Hv
@adamn493313 күн бұрын
I thought so, thanks for confirming. It's surface hardened while the ice hardened cases found on some of their other watches aren't as hard, but are treated the whole way through. The more I research into case hardening, the more downsides I tend to see. I'd rather an easy to buff 556 case. I think in a lot of cases hardened cases can't have scratches removed.

I do actually own both of these. The 556 with the MOP dial and the DS30 with the bule Dial and orange second hand. So enough of a difference to justify having both in the collection;) I'd say that the AR on the Damasko is just a bit better than on the Sinn. Sorry I meant to say DS30 as that isn't Ice hardened as the Ice hardened model say it in the specs and have it marked on the back, I did email Damasko last night about this, I'm a watchmaker and honestly there is no problem with winding these a few turns the problem is when people over wind then this is were the main spring is a full power so has to slip in the barrel and so apply's more friction the motion works. @@ClickSpringReview Their earlier models as mine DS30. 1410 are specified as submarine steel and have EDELSTAHL GEHARTET marked on case back . The bracelet they made to match this model is also sub steel and is a perfect match in tone and performance . They must have since changed this model to unhardened . I'm becoming a hobbyist watchmaker but only just beginning lol so I'm sure you've greater insight but just playing it safe on the winding bit . It's just as easy to rotate in hand on a pillow while having coffee and might save some trouble in some cases . It would take too much typing for my taste to expound and could be some manufacture flaw or the like I suppose but I've had an issue in the past only through educated and careful operation (with loads of research as well as experience) leading to the stem breaking and wheels in motion works needing replacement so simply playing it safe . I don't plan to go to a school but just develop through reading and online . I'm really enjoying the topic and look forward to my first victim . ST36 first . Just preparing to set up my bench . Nearly everything but a Jacot lathe and fresh lubricants hahaha . Don't need them sitting around getting old while I get my act together . Its still made of Submarine Steel but its advantage is its high resistances to water corrosion, I've one or two watches and had one bit of trouble once with a SW200 and it was the reversing wheel wasn't lubricant correctly, the early signs of this is when winding the rotor turns too, The ST36 is an excellent movement to start of with good choice. When you can get yourself a timegrapher as without it it's hard to tell just how good a job you have done. Any questions feel free to ask

Typically, the specs of entry level Damasko are ever so slightly higher than entry level Sinn. For example, the DS30 case and bracelet is made of hardened steel and the 556 is not. Also, Damasko now offers in-house movements on the DS30-adjacent DK30 lineup.
