I really like that campground. Plenty of trees and a stream bordering it on one side. The Arch Tree sure could be an Indian marker tree. It looks old enough to be one. The parks built by the CCC are always neat, especially with the history involved. There are a lot of things they built in my area. Their craftmanship is admirable. Thanks for another cool tour. Take care WOY.

Hello! Yes, we read some really interesting theories with the tree. This tree has two possible explanations according to "legend": The first is that it is a very old, surviving relic of the days when Native American Indians traveled through the area. They would sometimes "bend" trees to provide a "map" of the area for other travelers. During this time, trees were weighted down with rocks, r dirt or tied down with rawhide, bark, or vine, etc to create the bend. The arch tree appears to have scars at the bends, showing where the tree may have experienced such treatment. The second explanation is that tree that was struck by lightning many years ago during a storm. This tree was bent but didn't break, creating the signature arch. It continued to grow upward from where the top of the tree struck the ground and is now a popular stop in the Park. Regardless, the tree is a sight to see!

@@wanderingoutyonder That’s awesome to think about. We have some marker trees left here. They almost always have “N” bend to them and almost always are near a rock shelter, a gap in bluff lines, a river crossing etc. The area I live in was heavily logged 75 to 100 years ago. Apparently these crooked trees weren’t fit for the loggers so many of them survived. My bloodline comes straight from the Eastern Band of the Cherokee so I am very much attracted to these marker trees. I love them!

Nice video! Does anyone know if the bathroom building has the big wash sinks out in the back of the building? Some state parks do. Thanks in advance!

Good question! We can't recall - we normally show them if they do.
