Sinner: Born To Rock - The Noise Years 1984-1987, 4CD Box Set ; Review
Sinner's Heavy Metal Legacy
German heavy metal stalwarts Sinner have released an impressive 4CD box set, which is a testament to their lasting impact and dedication to the genre. Titled Sinner: The Noise Years, this treasure trove brings together four of their full-length albums from their prolific era with Noise Records, complete with six bonus tracks.
With 47 tracks spread across four discs, this set is a journey through Sinner's formidable years:
CD 1: Begins with their third studio album, Danger Zone, which originally hit the shelves in 1984. This classic record showcases the raw energy that made Sinner a force to be reckoned with in the heavy metal scene.
CD 2: Features Touch Of Sin, the band's lauded follow-up album released in 1985. Notably, this album’s lineup includes Herman Frank, the renowned guitarist from Accept.
CD 3: Takes you to 1986 with Comin' Out Fighting, a more polished yet fiercely energetic album, reflecting the band's evolution.
CD 4: Caps off with Dangerous Charm, also released in 1986, and marked the end of Sinner’s tenure with Noise Records. It epitomizes the amalgamation of the band’s experiences during this period.
A Band that Stands the Test of Time
Hailing from Stuttgart, Germany, Sinner burst into the scene in 1982 with their debut album Wild 'n' Evil. Fast forward 40 years, and the band boasts a staggering 20 studio albums, featuring an array of melodic metal that has evolved over the decades.
The band has seen a diverse ensemble of talents, with founding member Mat Sinner at its core. Besides his extensive contribution to Sinner, Mat Sinner also co-founded Primal Fear in 1997 alongside ex-Gamma Ray vocalist Ralf Scheepers. The duo went on to release 13 high-octane metal albums often drawing comparisons to legends like Judas Priest.
A Comprehensive Package for the Fans
In addition to the remastered albums, Sinner: The Noise Years offers six bonus tracks extracted from various singles through the years, adding a cherry on top for the collectors.
Moreover, the release is enriched with extensive liner notes penned by Thorsten Zahn, former editor of Metal Hammer Germany. It includes a brand new, in-depth interview with Mat Sinner, which is sure to provide fans with unique insights into the band’s illustrious career.
For anyone who cherishes heavy metal and its evolution, Sinner: The Noise Years is an invaluable addition to their collection. Delve into the history and relive the sonic power of one of German metal’s enduring titans, Sinner.

Thanks for this great review Phil! My first introduction to this band was 'Touch of Sin' many years ago and its still my fave. 'Storm Broke Loose' is a fantastic song with a strong Thin Lizzy vibe. 🎸🎸

Good review Phil. Just been watching Guitar Hack it was nice to hear Pete Pardo saying in weeks to come a collaboration with Martin Popoff yourself looking at the Deep Purple family incorporating Whitesnake, Rainbow and Gillan. Looking forward to that one.

1977 the Evesham band 'Night Creatures' morphed into the band 'Sinner' who in turn became 'Wratchild'. The guitarist Phil Vokins left to join Bill Ward's band for a time. Now playing with 'US'.

I am so pleased to see those four albums in a box set, that will be my next purchase. All four are good albums but "Touch of Sin" is the best - it just has that "magic" that just about every album that Herman Frank plays on seems to have. It's worth following Herman Frank around too - obviously he had two stints in Accept, he played with Sinner but also check out the Victory albums and his solo stuff too.

@@jogischulz2576 Yes, I did read your comment, I was going to respond a bit later in more detail. Berlin is a fantastic city, I saw Eloy play live there in 2012 and I also got to go to Checkpoint Charlie which was a life ambition for me. (I am half Ukrainian in real life so the whole post war Soviet Union history is interesting to me, though I am no fan of current events, of course!) I actually had tears of joy in my eyes when they walked on stage, it was a fantastic gig - and I got to see them a year later in Cologne, another fantastic city.

@@jogischulz2576 Yes, I have all of the Scorpions albums up to World Wide Live, and a few after that and I do like early Scorpions. In 2015, I saw Uli Jon Roth with Peter Panka's Jane in Balve Hohle, he did a Scorpions Revisited live set which was excellent.

Although they later progressed to a more of a 'Priest' sound, these albums here are more of where I'm at with musical taste. AOR/Melodic rock. A very underrated band indeed.

Mat Sinner is a Pseudonym, Phil. His real name is Matthias Lasch. My guess is, that he took it from the Priest-Song. But I've never listened much to Sinner and thus I'm not very knowledgable on them.

Hi Phil You seem very invigorated when talking about Sinner. It's like a 1980s pro wrestler who's doing an impassioned promo about an upcoming match. Phil as Hulk Hogan: 'Well let me tell you something chum! The Philster channels his FB-maniacs and I'll carry the group for physical media forever. Whatcha gonna do when Phil-A-Mania runs wild over you!?

Some of these German heavy metal bands can match the best of the NWOBHM. Albums by Sinner were never released here in Malaysia because the local record companies were more focused on arena superstars like The Scorpions. Nevertheless, bootlegged tapes were there! I accept my guilt!

Check out Fargo and Victory as two other great German hard rock bands - Victory is Herman Frank's main band and Peter Knorn was their bass player who has since reformed Fargo who have also done a couple of great albums.

@@terrydaktyllus1320 Thank you very much brother. I will make it a point to listen to the bands that you suggested. Here in Malaysia, The Scorpions had a massive following in the 1980s and early 1990s. In recent years I have become a follower of Ramstein. Have a nice day with your loved ones.
