what impressed me, was Jannik's Backhand down the line. He missed some at the beginning, so many players would say, nah, not today, it doesn't work for me, lets get cross. But Jannik did some spectacular backhands down the line later on, on important points. That shows me his believe in his game. And it is always a surprise factor, because he goes 99% cross. But when he makes it down the line with quality - it is point over. And each time he made it in this match - it was point over.

Let's say also this: Sinner has almost 12k points which is insane, it's one of the highest in the history of tennis. And let's say that they deducted the points of IW and he didn't compete in Rome due to hip injury. He belongs to the very limited club of Djokovic, Federer, Nadal who finished with such score. And still we don't know if he'll win Bercy and atp finals, with what he could finish the year with 14k points, which is INHUMANE 😅 What a exceptional champion

In the press conference, Sinner addressed again the wada issue. Contrary to most players, that often become confrontational and even arrogant when it comes to controversies, he seems eager to talk about it as if it would bring some relief. This kid was already an example of behavior on court now I just love his composure and dignity when facing these adversities and the clueless trolls that keep insulting him even on tour. About Djokovic, I don't completely agree that his reactions are starting fading out. He was really great against an even better server such as Fritz, so I think the effectiveness of Jannik serve was more due to Novak difficulties in reading his serve more than age-related stuff.

@@BikiG1 Post match media conference. Q. Could you comment on any parts of Jannik's game that remind you of yourself? NOVAK DJOKOVIC: All around, you know, every shot he's got in the game. He's improved his serve tremendously, I think that became a big weapon. He's just very aggressive from the baseline, as soon as he's got a shorter ball, he's taking the initiative. Just very solid from forehand and backhand, doesn't make too many mistakes, and just tries to take away the time from the opponent. You know, that's something that reminds me of myself throughout my career, that's what I've done for so many years consistently, you know, playing fast-paced tennis, taking away time from the opponent, kind of suffocating the opponent, if you want, in a certain way. That's what you want, you want your opponents always to feel under pressure from your shots, from your speed, from your presence on the court. Biggest improvement to Sinner’s game has been the movement and endurance. He is quick, agile and has stamina to boot. That has come in leaps and bounds. That has assisted tremendously with his shot tolerance where he is able to outlast and overpower the likes of Djokovic and Medvedev. It has also contributed immensely to his footwork where he makes run around forehands which gives him more options to dictate play and finish points decisively. He still needs to improve his spot serving and forecourt skills. All around a fantastic year

Hi Gill and congratulations for your work, so accurate and interesting as always. I believe however that the mistake that is often made in evaluating a tennis performance and that you risk falling into in your match analysis is to consider each contender and his performance as something isolated compared to the presence on the court and the performance of the other player. Instead, what one player manages to do on the court often depends also on what is proposed and sent back to him by the other player. In the analysis of this final you focused a lot on Nole and his level as if this depended only on him, on his level of inspiration, physical condition, attitude and hunger for victory, while in reality the real difference for the final result, different from the previous days, in my opinion depended only on the value of the player in front of him! the thing that in my opinion you don't consider and highlight enough is how Sinner, before even beating you technically, beats you (and knocks you down) psychologically! Nole's different attitude after the first set lost in the tiebreak compared to the match with Fritz is that Jannik with his disarming and, indeed, apparently normal solidity, literally takes away your conviction and hope of being able to overcome him! I know that thinking this applied to the greatest player of all time has an effect, and that we are certainly not talking about Nole in his prime, but the 4 defeats in the last 5 matches with Sinner are now inside Nole and working in his head. so saying that Jannik wins without doing "anything exceptional" does not consider his ability to constantly raise his level compared to what is proposed to him on the other side of the net! he always seems to do the bare minimum to win, which is true, in essence, but in my opinion people forgets to emphasize enough how different the level he puts on the field is when he wins against Nole rather than against Michelsen. It always seems like he plays "at his standard level", but in reality we are talking about completely different levels! This, of Sinner, is a monstrous quality and it is the characteristic that is allowing him to have a year like 2024! and it is the characteristic that, I understand, makes him appear a bit boring and "robotic", but it represents what gives him this monstrous continuity of performance and results that will make him finish the year at number 1 and the main difference compared to his great rival Alcaraz, who instead always goes at a thousand without this ability to manage the level to "use it" according to the need.

His movement was greatly compromised before the match due to physical issues. He had a medical time out even during his match with Fritz. He couldn't stretch as he normally used to do while reading and returning serve. His reaction was poor. Federer lost the fire after overtaking Sampras's record of 14 Slams and became all time Slam record holder with 16 Slams. Djokovic has overtaken Nadal and its impossible for Rafa to compete now so it's natural. LET ME CLARIFY THE SINNER CASE AT THIS POINT:::::::::::::: I will start by saying that Wada is appealing to the only possible argument: that Sinner, who was unintentionally infected and therefore acquitted by both courts, is guilty of negligence, i.e. that he did not do everything possible to prevent the contagion. Since, as Roddik also stated, no physiotherapist massages an athlete with gloves, because it is essential to palpate the muscle to be treated with bare hands, Jannik must prove that he was completely unaware that the physiotherapist had used an ointment containing clostebol and that due to the wounds on his foot, the substance had come into contact with his blood. It seems quite clear that we are talking about legal objections that WADA uses to gain some ADV and not to save sports ethics, but anyway let's move on to the important thing: If you have noticed, now almost all tennis players have taken Sinner's side because something very dangerous has been understood: if Sinner were convicted, it would become a precedent for all athletes infected like him involuntarily because it may be necessary to prove that everything possible was done to avoid contagion and the lack of negligence without having objective parameters to judge each case. I will give a couple of extreme examples to understand: an athlete who kisses a girl who has taken drugs (case that happened to a Canadian athlete tested positive and acquitted). Should the athlete have understood that the woman was a possible danger because she was obviously too euphoric? Palomino, an Argentine football player tested positive because he supplied to the dog a medicine containing a doping substance that involuntarily came into contact with its skin. Should he have called any other to give him the injection? There are many other borderline cases like these, and this is to make it clear that everything would become much more complicated to judge and also in the management of the daily life of a professional athlete, because involuntary action would no longer constitute an attenuating factor and for this reason it is not in the interest of any athlete that Sinner be suspended.
@joannemoore3976
@joannemoore3976 Ай бұрын
Thank you. A lot of food for thought here. Of course we don't know exactly what WADA will base their appeal on but this could be a really important ruling from CAS for all players. Exactly what level of precaution is it possible and reasonable for a player to take? I suppose we will have to wait for the outcome. But yes, the brighter players will be beginning to grasp the implications.
@BLACKMARKETITALY
@BLACKMARKETITALY Ай бұрын
@@joannemoore3976 sure, wada didn't know at all what to appeal to and they used the only possible way that is difficult to prove: sinner for wada did not do everything possible to avoid contagion. This is what their accusation is based on and now Sinner will have to prove the opposite. But at this point my biggest reflection is: Wada as other organizations that administer doping rules serve primarily to ensure fairness in sport for all and safeguard its ethics. My reflection is that the Sinner case absolutely does not violate these rules and this is the most important thing. Anything else is just bureaucracy and politics which has nothing to do with the primary role of these organizations.

@@BLACKMARKETITALY apparently this is the first time WADA has appealed an ITIA decision.. I can't help thinking it's due to all the noise and (unfair) claims of preferential treatment. Or they are trying to set a precedent. The problem is you could argue almost anything 'could' have been done. In theory, Jannik could have routinely searched his team members' belongings. But which players and their teams would be comfortable with that. I am hoping balance and reason win the day.

Sinner definitely played above his 'average' level. Novak definitely not in the same physical or mental shape as normal. He played 2 matches since the Olympics before this tournament. And he's 37 and not prime any longer. What cost him the most was missing volleys. Same as USO 21, Wimby 24 and other examples. And lets not forget that he had knee surgery months ago. I think it is about time to start talking about the fact that Novak is going down hill. It might only be a tiny bit but every day he is diminishing physically. The guys he is squaring off against are improving and gaining in every way each day. They are very close in overall level but right now the curve is starting to move up for the young guys and trend down for Novak. We always like to think that it's a slow process. We want to deny the reality and hold on to the "forever" of the greats in sport. They truth is it always seems to feel real fast. Nadal had 6-7 months of insane greatness that made us forget everything that was real and then poof, he blew up and was gone. Novak will be gone sooner than anyone wants to see. I predict it will be much sooner. He does not want to go out losing to these guys in the finals. If he can not win the Aussie '25 he is going to call it a day. Everyone will say, "you're crazy. He could win slams next year!". Yeah, he can. Nadal could have recovered from the hip and upper body issues too but he didn't. Something he was always courageously able to do but in the end time caught him. What most people don't think about is that losing is an "injury". It is an injury against your own standard. Novak has owned this generation when they entered their careers. They haven't caught and surpassed the greatest. They have surpassed the greatest now that he is finally almost THIRTY EIGHT. The movie isn't going to get better from this point on. He has and I predict will take the chance to leave while he is "still on top" of the game. Yeah I'm a Nadal fan hahahahaha Serious, Novak gets all the credit in the world. He is still very close to the best. Maybe only 1 or 2 of them can take the court with him and not be afraid. I don't see how he has done it. He has a big fire for sure. I just see it as one that is going to go out soon. He deserves any and all accolades he gets and some. I still like Nadal better haha
