Gossip is not always true. Gossip is when someone spreads lies about you because they don’t know the whole story.
@altheacarls957210 ай бұрын
Fully agree with this. It's the carrying of a story heard, regardless of whether true or false, with haste, without establishing the veracity of it, without thought of whether or could be damning against the person being spoken of. I aliken the carrying of gossip like a hot coal in the hand of the hearer - they just can't wait to drop it off into the next carrier's hands (or ears). The hearer also engages in the "tale" and adds his or her own flavor to it.

Great words, Pastor Joel. I recently, like last month, got caught up in the crossfire of a gossiping situation which 2 wives of church leaders slandered another church leader and other members (including my wife). I brought these issues to our Pastor and he basically told me to not let these women’s gossiping bother me. Nothing was done about this issue, so we are leaving this church. Pray for us.

I was under the impression that gossiping is telling secrets that you agreed not to tell. Slander is telling something negative (true or false) while a person is present or absent, in order to harm their character or reputation.

I saw the title and was scared to look because I really could use some encouragment. I clicked on it anyways and I am glad I did. I grew up in a group that relies on flattery and slander to control the narrative and relative positions of people. And you get one or the other depending on whether you talk about truth or not. It took so many years for me to even realize I was in a fog.. I pray for my family. That they are able to know how loved and accepted they are as is, and that the truth is the way, is the life. What you said helped me so much..

If you don’t forgive, you will not be forgiven. Make no mistake - every sin ever committed will be punished in one of two ways: either in Christ or apart from Christ. If you want your sins to be punished in Christ, but you want your enemies to go to Hell for the sins they committed, especially when they’ve sinned against you, then you’re a hypocrite. I say this out of love because I used to think the way you do, which is a completely unholy and unloving mindset. Jesus shed His blood for the sins of the whole world, even for my enemies, and I fully embrace that concept. I also challenge you to pray for strongest enemy for 30 days and see how tender your heart becomes. It really works.

This understanding would have prevented a very unfortunate, massive church split in my prior church where the pastor thought any encouragement toward improvement or expression of concern for his own wellbeing and that of his family was gossip and slander. In fact, those two terms were used singularly, "gossip and slander," never separately, always together. It turned into aggressive, baseless witch hunts and endless threats of church discipline for vague ideas of "gossip and slander," with no timeline for actual resolution. In my opinion, all for the sake of preserving the reputation of the pastor. It became very abusive very quickly, private conversations were quoted out of context during sermons, and those who were targeted by this knew it immediately. The pulpit was being used as a weapon to keep the supposed dissenters in line. Rules about fellowship at the church building even on the Lord's Day were tightened so that the elders could monitor conversations. Ugly stuff. And all because one church member, in love, went to an elder with a concern for another elder's wellbeing, owned their own words with integrity, never said anything privately to others, but simply asked an elder to check in with the one in question.

Cursing is kinda like smoking. Once you do it enough, it feels natural and it gets hard to quit. Plus, being around it makes you wanna do it. I have to remind myself all the time when I slip up. It's usually at work when I'm around other people who curse. I never take the Lord's name in vain though. You could politely ask her not to curse so much. 🤷

Let the truth be the truth. If a coworker for example isn't pulling their weight day after day, venting to another coworker is just that. Venting! Their lack of contribution shouldn't be your problem but often times is. I cause enough of my own frustrations and shouldn't have to deal with continual frustrations from others. They're lack of contribution should be no one else's problem. Gossip would be demeaning their character and harming their reputation. We need to vent otherwise it will come out in other negative ways maybe toward family members, ourselves or even God. What Paul was saying is that everyone should be doing what they have been assigned to do. Paul vents all the time in scripture.

Deut 16 to 21 "if a false witness testifies against someone, accusing him of a crime, both parties to the dispute must stand in the presence of the LORD, before the priests and judges who are in office at that time. The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is proven to be a liar who has falsely accused his brother, you must do to him as he intended to do to his brother. So you must purge the evil from among you.c Then the rest of the people will hear and be afraid, and they will never again do anything so evil among you. You must show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth,d hand for hand, and foot for foot. This why Jesus promises to send (or allow) a great delusion in 2nd Thessalonians).

I agree with you on most things and I think this teaching is overall great, however, I find it hypocritical in a sense to have a video about slander and talk about intent and slide in a joke tearing down liberals. I’m a conservative myself and I understand it was a joke but I feel like it wasn’t the best fit in this context however true it may or may not be. I appreciate your message though, discernment and learning about how to best honor God through our words and actions is definitely something we need in the world to be taught on.

You chastise Women that are unsaved in culture around us. Paul said that he did not judge outside the church. And then you appear to blame’s Christian women for this sin also. You mix categories. Pastor teach the World of God, it’s up to the Holy Spirit to convict of sin. You are accusing Christian’s of evil but you don’t know they are sinning in that way. Dominionism is unbiblical. Jesus and the Apostles preach the Gospel, and how to live holy.
