First of all I just want to say thank you for the review because I fit the exact demographic that you were reviewing this backpack for. I purchased this backpack about one month ago since then I’ve hiked 60+ miles with it. So far this backpack as far exceeded my expectations. The fit and finish is great, comfort has been fantastic for me 6’2” 200lbs. I’m finding that all of the zippers and pockets are very usable. I’m brand new to backpacking so I don’t really have a point of reference regarding a different backpack but I do have to say that this was well worth the $70 too me.

That's awesome. Glad to hear it's working out for you. I've seen decent range of packs in terms of price / functions and I have to agree with you - It's a great blend of price and capability.

Everything you said in your first minute here are things I soooo agree with, and it's so hard for a beginner to find good tips on things that are maybe a little bit cheaper. I have a very small budget to spend on my hobbies and interest, and if I were to only get the "recommended" gear from youtubers and forums etc, I wouldn't be able to start hiking for a whole year, because of how long it would take me to save up to buy just the basics. I don't know if I'm still going to be hiking in a year (but I hope so, because I need a hobby that I can't do sitting in my computer chair), and I don't want to spend a small fortune on gear, I just want to start hiking. Great video and thank you for doing it!

Beginners RC I've been wanting to get a kelty once I actually start hiking/camping. I saw a 50 that i really liked and tried on. fit me great and is on Amazon for $90. But for now I'll just a back pack I've had for quite a while, but it's comfortable and great for day trips.

So, I think you have me sold on buying one of these as my new pack. At the very least if worst came to worst (like I didn't find it comfortable) it could be a pretty nice sized get home/go back to put stuff to survive a night broken down on the side of the road. I'm just getting back to camping and backpacking so this might be a nice way to ease back into it. Thank you for the review

Good Review! Now you can test it on a winter trip. I use my Jansport 65L pack for my winter camping. I paid under $100 two years ago and it has worked very good. Good quality for the price. I really like my Osprey Exos 48L for my regular pack and it costs just under $200. Happy Holidays!

Hi. Love your videos. A little tip about the dog leash though. When you have it like that it is a danger that the dog get stuck on a branch or a root or his own feet. What you can do if you want something to grab hold on is to have a short leash hanging from the collar. Just about 1-2 dm long. No risk for the dog to be all tangled up in something but still something to hold in if you meet people or other things. But I think it is better to either have a long leash or no leash at all. Looking forward to se more of you and I just want to add that your wife looks like the happiest person in the world 😀

very similar to my Teton Sports scout 3400. it has a very similar design in the pockets with a couple of minor changes. also has the integrated rain cover in the same exact spot. also the sleeping bag pocket at the bottom in the same design with the zipper to open the entire thing up. the scout has a similar weight at 4.5 lbs. I have one more top pocket on the underside when you open the pack. one more side pocket and much more shock cord straps. however the scout doesn't have hip pockets which is a bummer, so I do like that aspect of the pack you show here. the other thing is the side pockets where you stick the water bottles has a different issue on the scout in that anything wider then a smart water bottle simply won't fit. even the smart water bottles just barely fit in it, but they are deeper pockets so I don't have to worry about the bottle falling out. so no chance a canteen or nalgeen bottle fits in it, or much of anything else that is wider then a smart water bottle. $60 on Amazon all day for the scout 3400. quality materials as well. Im confident you will enjoy that pack there sintax, as it is very similar to mine and I very much enjoy my pack. in fact it purchased it for price and figured it would upgrade at some point later to a nicer pack, but honestly i have no plans on upgrading my pack anymore. it's just a solid pack. this one seems every bit as solid for a great price! can't wait to see you put it through its paces with another hiking video!

I ordered this pack this morning. {no insult intended to any Scandinavians} I'm gaining 1.3 pounds over my cheaper Chinese pack, but I hope it makes up for it in comfort. 55 bucks, but we had a coupon and a gift card for 5 bucks each, so it should get along nicely with the rest of my ultra tight kit.

The pack looks very nice for the price. I currently use a Kelty and I love it but it is two pounds heavier. I am interested in taking a look at one of these.
@aftli8 жыл бұрын
FWIW this is an extremely similar design (particularly with the bottom compartment and side access, included rain cover in a separate compartment, tool/trek pole stowage, sleeping pad stowage position, whistle in the sternum strap, and more) to an Osprey Kestrel. They pretty much copied all of the ideas from the Kestrel, which is a good thing - I absolutely love my Kestrel, so if you want a Kestrel on a budget, this might be the pack! Kestrel is offered in smaller sizes, though, so if you'd rather a 48L that might be your best bet.

Good information, bud, but as for the pup, what would happen if he took off after a deer - especially with that leash on? It's happened to friends and they never found their dogs. I know it's tempting to let them run, but it's really not a good idea.

Curious to see how it will hold itself during your wintertrip. Because there's one thing I missed in this video, a test with a proper load. A 65 liter pack should really be able to handle 45 pounds without effort. For 80 bucks and 3,5 poundsI wouldn't expect much more from it and still be comfortable, but especially people just getting into this will meet those 45 pounds quickly ones you add fuel and food for a week and a fresh supply of water.
@BackcountryExposure7 жыл бұрын
My experience exactly! I just did my review on this pack, and had it loaded with 42 pounds, and did 7 miles with it. My hips were not happy at the end of the trip.
@HerrFinsternis7 жыл бұрын
Yes good review, I like how you start with that one glaring issue, before proceeding to what's good. What I do like about this pack is that, while they got the price down by downgrading the suspensionsytem, they didn't skimp on the rest. This is an excellent for those that plan to use it for anything other than extended hikes. One point worth noting. When you carry 40+ pounds you´re gonna feel it at the end of the day. No pack is gonna stop that from happening :)
@BackcountryExposure7 жыл бұрын
HerrFinsternis Of course you're gonna feel it. I've never experienced that kind of pressure from my Osprey or Cotopaxi. I think we're in agreement there.

Yes, I wore it during this video: It worked as expected without any issues. If i had to find one thing to say it would be that the shoulder straps are not quite as rigid and therefore comfortable with heavier loads as my EMS or ULA, but it still got the job done without any pain or failures.

Scandinavian gear....wow...that's really an insult to us scandinavians.. This is clearly an inexpensive backpack, and that is fair enough. But it's totally not ok to link scandinavia to sub par outdoor equipment! Us scandinavians are really proud of our "outdoorsy" heritage, and most reputable Scandinavian manufacturers are really high end, and to be frank really really expensive. (that is one if the reasons why you rarely see Scandinavian equipment overseas). Sure, we have cheap stuff here too, like store-brands and other china made crap, but th3 word "Scandinavian" should really only be used by high end Scandinavian manufacturers. Sorry about the rant, it just really took a poke at my pride :p Swedes and Norwegians are practically raised in the woods, and we take the outdoors really seriously! ;)
