My mom, who would have turned 99 this year, would not take me to the doctor when we had cold symptoms. She said all they want to do is give you an antibiotic and if you take antibiotics for something like a cold then when you really need it for something serious, it won’t work! She also said we needed get over things on our own to build immunity.

What timing! My fever broke at 6:30 this morning, and I feel good after only two days of what seemed sinus-y. Here is what I did: Let my fever do its job; took a couple of very hot, longish showers to loosen things up and help blow and cough it out; used a eucalyptus shower spray; ate very little; drank hot unsweetened elderberry and echinacea teas with lemon; garbled with warm salt water; sucked on zinc lozenges; asked for prayer; and RESTED! Don't know for sure if everything helped, but it didn't hurt🤗

I had infection in my ears, throat and chest and bronchitis. I have never felt so unwell. 2 courses of antibiotics fixed it. I hate taking medication and always prefer natural remedies but in this case I’d had enough of feeling so sick.

Israeli doctors in the 1980s discovered that the rhinovirus dies when heated to 102°. To eliminate a viral sinus infection break out your hair dryer put it under your nose and breathe the warm air for like 5 to 10 minutes as long as you feel it's necessary and do this a couple of times during the day. I have told friends about this and use it on myself and within a few hours maybe 10 hours or less you will notice that your nose clears up, it's not running anymore, that's because the hot air from the hair dryer has killed the virus that's in your nose. The nose is running because the body is trying to flush the virus out. This is real, it always works and that's the truth. Dr Berry is the best but I wanted him to know about this.

Amen … my go to as well. Unfortunately, I am very prone to bacterial sinus infections but the oil of oregano drops as well as nasal spray plus olive leaf are all antiviral/antibiotic/ as well as anti fungal. Sometimes they fully take care of my frequent sinus infections by themselves. If I still develop a full blown bacterial infection, they continue helping and I continue taking them along with antibiotic. But having taken SO many antibiotics, my gut microbiome has been severely compromised. I always try my very best to avoid the antibiotics because of my severe reactions to the antibiotics if at all possible!

I have 5 kids & trying to breastfeed & manage a household while not holding anything down or being able to walk is not an option for me. I know each time when I get it bad that if I do not get meds I will end up with sepsis or meningitis. My husband and I are RN's (me BSN and him MSN) We want to thank you for the download on the proper human diet. I've been watching / listening to you and Neisha for years. I've lost 35 lbs since May this year. We've slacked over the holiday. However, we've put together a plan to get back on track now. I won't get into detail here but, you do know how hard it is keeping to a schedule when you're constantly flying by the seat of your health care professional pants. So, we are concentrating on the food itself; grass-fed and finished beef and pasture raised bacon from a very local E TN farm. We'll deal with the time issues as we go. A tide-us-over anytime of day cup of homemade broth from said meat will be added to our daily intake for those critical care getting our butts kicked events.

I’m sorry, but either you have not experienced it, or prefer not to bring it up for some other reason, but you’ve not mentioned the one thing that has helped life-long (and in 73 years, I’ve had a lot of head colds and sinus infections) and even today. This time-honored method is the Steam Tent. Find your biggest mixing bowl and a large (but not thick or cumbersome) towel. It must be almost bath sized to cover head and neck. Then you need an old fashioned kettle full of water. Boil the water. If you have no kettle, use a large pot. Pour enough to fill your mixing bowl about 2” short of the rim. Carry the bowl to your kitchen table; the towel should be already spread out on the back of the chair. A second towel set under the bowl would not come amiss. Make sure any pets or small children are out of the way for 15-20 minutes-scalding water is potentially risky! By “out of the way”, I mean baby in crib, toddler in play pen, dogs or other pets in another room, ideally another adult to supervise. Pull the towel over your head. Center your face over the water. Tuck towel under chin so neck skin won’t get too hot. Now this is important: hold the towel open a little at first, to let in some cooler air, until you get used to breathing steam. It will be hot, maybe even painful to breathe at first. Breathe in through your nose, and back out also through your nose. Alternate with breathing in through open mouth, deep into chest. As air cools down, close the towel and breathe the steamy air slowly and deeply in and out. It’s peaceful-like a meditation. After 15 minutes you will have the most benefit and can stop. Push your damp hair away from your face, dry your face with the towel. Your eyelids will probably be a little red and tender. This will pass. Carefully get up, steady yourself, and dump the still-very-hot water in the sink. Phew! The steam shrinks swollen nasal passages. You might need to blow your nose a lot afterwards, or even during. It should help a lot with clearing your head. If one side is stopped up, breathe through the side that works. Very good to do in the morning if your sinuses are aching. Also very good before bed. It can stimulate a real cleanout, so have plenty of tissues handy. My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother used it on me at a VERY young age. It was frightening. But once a child is old and self-controlled enough to cooperate, it can be used on children, but only under strict supervision, and only for 5-10 minutes. One of the most soothing and comforting things to do in case of sickness. NOT FOR CHAOTIC HOUSEHOLDS. In must be done very controlled. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes. Sit down and pull your chair close. In December 2023, I had Covid for the first time. My doctor prescribed a lot of medications but I never took them. It manifested first as a sore throat, then a severe sinus infection-symptoms lasted 2 weeks. In that time I used the steam tent 8 times, and that’s what ultimately defeated the sinus infection. I should have done it every day but I was just so weak and exhausted. It was really enough.

Not until I began to work in a daycare setting did I ever get a sinus infection. I thought at first it was my allergies. Then I thought it was a cold. 9 MONTHS later I was so sick. I tasted it, smelled it and was so exhausted. So sick. Copious amounts of mucus was created and I could never clear it. It was a child’s father that told me I had an infection. Went to the dr and started antibiotics. 5 days later I was all better. Never found out what was the exact cause (virus? Bacteria?) I had an inkling as to what it was: the air in the center. The air was circulated from room to room. The ducts were never cleaned the whole time I worked there. I had several infections while I worked there (10 years) and since I left I haven’t had one and never want another one. It was horrible.

I make a powder snuff out of cayenne, Golden seal, and Barberry and just a minute few grains in the end of a swap snorted up the nose and it is instant relief from the headache, and begins to greatly help with nasal airflow. Yes it is quite intense but it goes away quickly and gets easier to adjust the amount up a little or down so you aren't quite so surprised when you use it a second time. The cayenne is a dialator and Antihistamine, the Barberry acts as an anti-viral and the golden seal is a neutralizer of toxins. If you have a sinus headache Just a few grains in the end of a swab the size of 2 or 3 periods from an ink pen will instantly give relief. Repeat as needed to give you the relief sought for. I also use it when I feel the first symptoms of a virus colonizing on the back of my palate and and sinus. If you can catch it early you can mitigate the progression the infection to an appreciable degree.

I used to have chronic sinus infections. Two a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Turned out I was living in a house with a mold problem. Even after moving out I was still getting them. Began using Afrin and sinus irrigation with warm salt water using a big syringe. Stopped having sinus infections but I became dependent on the Afrin for years. Finally kicked my addiction to that and now haven't had a sinus infection for about 10 years. The key for me seemed to be keeping the the sinuses open and cleaned out. Just be careful how you do it.

I literary just got done with a major sinus and lung infection and you're exactly right. The three things that I needed most were rest, water, and electrolytes. You need the rest! Don't over exert yourself and you will lose a lot of water to mucus and whatever else your body does and my heart was working harder too so absolutely get some electrolytes; this helped a lot. Some sunlight and nice music or anything you can do to be as stress free as possible makes it more bearable and mind your posture because you'll notice it get harder to breathe with bad posture. Took me 4 days to get rid of it before a fever put the final nail in the coffin and spent a whole day spitting and blowing out mucus after it went away so I can suggest to continue to stay hydrated for a couple days after as well. @@treasuresabound0062 very easy, collect a fresh sample, (mucus sample) send it to a laboratory where it is examined for signs of fungi. Or if your doctor is in a hospital with a good microscope, take a look. There are also tests that take 48 hours to look for growth of the infection. With all viral and bacterial infections a simple test should be performed. Personally I don't agree 95% are viral. Many cases of strep throat (bacterial), then expand into a bacterial sinus infection. Herpes type infections (viral) of the mouth or throat lead to sinus infections which need to be treated with antiviral medications. Even an infected tooth, gums (very common), can lead to a sinus infection, which requires antibiotics.

I got them chronically 20 years ago and got fed up with the side effects from OTC products. The engineer training was applied to find a way out. So starting with my mom's wives tail, Vit A & D dries up sinuses. Oh, but wait, experts say too much A can be toxic, oh no! What about precursors? Up pops beta carotene, let your body make whatever A it needs. Then the nurses study pops up! Beta Carotene less than 50mg dose increases lung cancer, and I'm a smoker! Hmmmm, looking, looking, another study. Greater than 50mg decreases all cancers! Thank you! So, what I did was any time I was stuffed I took 60 MG, 100,000iu. No side effects from beta carotene so if sinuses still not free take another dose every half hour or so. Usually only takes 2, or 3 doses max to be dried up. Been working for 20 years! Just a few years ago I found a hypothesis for A toxicity. E, A, D, C are synergistic in that order so as long as you have your D, and C up, no problem taking A! Good news since removing 99% of carbs a week ago, I haven't needed to take any beta, and sleeping like a baby too! So, if it help someone else, no harm! If it's a nothing burger, than maybe just the way my body works. Still worth a try! Thanks for your info, and hope maybe mine helps someone too!

Funny you put this out when I'm dealing with sinus or what I thought was an infection. I've had bad ones over the years but not for a while now. I've hardly suffered from anything since going keto. But a week ago woke to intense pain in my sinus on the right side. Just as it has always been. Thing was there wasn't the swelling or nasal blockage as usual. What I found was a muscle or nerve starting at the base of my neck and running up to the base of my skull on the right side very tight and very sore. It continued around the side above my ear to my temple where is was intensely sore there as well. A hot shower and plenty of massaging finally eased the pain. Continued care given to my neck in the form of taking it easy and taking care how I have slept on it has almost gotten it straightened out. Pretty crazy. Absolutely the exact symptoms and pain of an infection but wasn't at all. Thank you Lord for helping me figure that one out!

Dr. Berry, with all due respect, a few comments: I have suffered from sinus infections for 25 years. I avoid taking antibiotics at all costs. It's funny, when I end up throwing in the towel and going to the doctor, I jokingly say that I am going to be your first patient who asks you NOT to prescribe me an antibiotic. What else can I do? Point is, I try avoiding them. However with that said, if I do end up taking one, my sinus infection is knocked out within 2 days. I am currently fighting another sinus infection, taking herbs and using a neti pot. I'm actually using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) b/c again, I avoid antibiotics. I'm on about day 8 and no improvement. You repeatedly said 95-97% are viral. How do you know that? There are MANY people like me that get recurrent sinus infections. The one common denominator that we have all discovered is that doctors don't have an answer as to why. I'm healthy (according to my labs), workout all the time, eat very clean/healthy, limited alcohol, no tobacco. I've always lived a very healthy lifestyle. My achilles heel has always been my sinuses. I've had sinus surgery twice, cat scans, x-rays, etc. No one can give me an answer. I was hoping your video would provide some insight, but again I am disappointed. To tell people that 95-97% of the time they will just go away, well that is simply not true.

@@ptxdearpearsDQ I put a few sprays of providone iodine into my neti pot and rinse with that - I think it helps a lot. I also use the providone nasal spray when traveling before going to bed.

I began curing them with antibiotics and did that for 20 years. Then I got nasal spray to spray every day (didn't). Then I tried rinsing my nose. Then I had success with a humidifier. After I went low carb the sinus infections vanished as one of the many surprising health benefits. For several years I haven't come down with anything.

In the Military (when I was younger and prettier) the usual treatment for us was sticking our faces into a bowl of warm salt water and sucking through the nostrils, then spitting out the junk that came out. It loosened all of the mucus and sinus whatevers, and did it a few times. You can then blow your nose and get cleared up for a few hours of relief. A warm shower also helped--its like it melted all of that stuff out of there. This was before Dr. Oz and Oprah introduced us to the Neti pot. Just did it the 10 days or so before Christmas when I caught one.

@@ssssssssssssssssss50 I have both. But I remember a doc saying you have a deviated septum. That was it. I spent my entire life not being able to breathe from my nose. Gave up diary 10 years ago and today I can breathe easily from both nostrils. I get sinus infections about 2 times a year, but can manage them better with nasal washing with saline solutions I use "Flo". My infections are serious as they go to my lungs, so I'm in the 3% that need the antibiotics. I also take kefir regularly now (non lactose) which I think might help. Only started about 6 months ago, and no infection since.

There is a dteange one going around right now. Its starts as burning sinuses, headache, and pressure. For like one day, then you go back to normal for a day or two, then the sinus symptoms come back, and it does this for about 2 weeks, then moves to chest then you get a final hit in the sinuses that causes fever, bodyaches, chills, etc. I am going on my 3rd week of it. Everyone I talk to who had it has the same exact symptoms. My trainer tried antibiotics and they didnt work very well.

I typically take zicam as soon as I start feeling any cold symptoms coming on. I also will use antihistamines to dry up the drip and decongestants to relieve the pressure.

In another life, there was a doctor in the town where I lived that had 6 jars of pills on his desk. Every time someone came in with a problem (such as a sinus infection) that could not be cured by an antibiotic, he would go into one of the jars and give them about a dozen pills to take for the problem. Each one of them was a placebo and just about all of them worked just fine.

Ok what about chronic sinus infections that don’t go away

I am uncertain if I have a sinus infection. This intermittent problem has persisted for several years. I detect a sweet, burnt odor. I do not experience headaches or sinus pressure; however, sometimes the smell seems to emanate from my eyes, which I realize may sound unusual. When the smell intensifies, it becomes quite overwhelming and nauseating. I have been rinsing my sinuses daily, hoping for improvement. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints and a lack of insurance, a doctor's visit is currently impossible. Several years ago, when I had insurance and this first began, I consulted my physician, but she dismissed my concerns. At that time, I detected various odors, including smoke and peaches, in addition to the burnt, sweet smell. Now, the burnt, sweet smell is the most prominent symptom. Any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

FIRST...IF I KNEW ABOUT YOU, when I first went to see a doctor as an adult; I WOULD have felt much differently about your profession! I might actually TRUST doctors. ❤ Thank you for being a doctor we can all TRUST! Which begs the question... WHERE have you been all my life? I'M SO GLAD you're telling people if they have a viral infection antibiotics won't do a darn thing! They ask for and are given them out like candy and then, when you might REALLY need them.... not as effective, you've grown tolerant. Ugggh. While you're at it, will you also remind people the REASON our bodies do the fever thing when it IS bacterial... to raise the body temp to kill as much of the bacteria as possible. The body actually TRIES TO HEAL ITSELF, ITSELF. P.S. we both didn't get cedar fever this year...Carnivore for 6 months! Sooo cool!!! 🎉❤🎉 Thx Dr Berry!

At 6 in the am I just sent this to my daughter...lol. poor girl has her daddys sinus problems. I USED to have problems all the time. And ironically I NEVER took any medications because I would much rather suffer the infection than the way those things made me feel. I would however take ibuprofen and after a day or two when I'd be suffering from sleep loss I'd take half a dose of alkaseltzer plus "nighttime" TO GET A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP!! I swore to all my kids their entire lives that plenty of GOOD sleep would knock it out quicker than anything else! I feel SO vindicated Dr. Berry. I do. Thank you. Side note...My bi-yearly allergy issues disappeared 4 years ago when I first went keto and eventually carnivore. Ive been sick once...that was covid. Thats it! Not even a frikken cold. ❤❤
