Sinuses and Vasculitis
Recorded March 2024
In this webinar you will learn how vasculitis can affect the sinuses. Brent A. Senior, MD, FACS, FARS, the Chief of the Division of Rhinology, Allergy, and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at UNC School of Medicine, takes a deep dive into what you need to know about the complications that can happen with sinus involvement.
He’ll explore the role of diagnostic testing and discuss treatment options like nasal irrigations and intranasal steroids. In addition, Dr. Senior will talk through severe sinus complications and damage, such as saddle nose deformity.

“LIMITED” GPA. Such an injustice.

We agree with you and Dr. Senior-the use of the term "limited" may make it sound/seem less serious than it is.

My Rheumatologist refuses to even concider GPA (ENT and Derma said GPA) because Im not ANCA positive and that I "only" have skin, nose and sinus involvement. They gave me the diagnosis Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis and said I get the same treatment as GPA patients. So there is no difference if I get GPA diagnosis. Is that really true?

While the initial treatment protocols for many forms of vasculitis are similar, there are FDA approved medications that can be used in the treatment of GPA that are not typically used for the treatment of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Not all patients with GPA will be ANCA positive. Approximately 10% of GPA patients are ANCA negative-this occurs more commonly when the GPA is limited to the upper and lower respiratory tracts and does not involve the kidneys. If you are worried that the diagnosis is not accurate, we'd suggest getting a second opinion. Hi, I hope you are doing better. I am a limited GPA patient who constantly coughed in the past but later I was prescribed Rituxien Bioinfusion at 1000mg the coughing slowly disappeared. Consult your DR.

I have GPA and had a chronic cough that lasted for years. I was successfully treated by Dr. Robert Bastian for sensory neuropathic cough. He describes the cough and discusses a range of treatments in part 2 of a KZbin presentation at this link kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXuwgWdrmq9shqsfeature=shared. Dr. Bastian has more recent presentations, but this version has greater depth. This is just something to consider if your existing medical team has been unable to help you.
