@pocket16844 ай бұрын
I partially disagree, but this line up was best for siouxsie and where she was in the beginning. I love artists that always progress to continue to make great art despite who is in the line up like The Damned. Some people only like their 1st 2 albums. They progressed..having said that, I think this line up started a sound. Even Budgie said he loved this drummer and he liked that siouxsie pushed him and mcgeosh to be creative beyond the normal drummer/guitarist.

I had already selected side 1 of Join Hands to be played loud on a good sound system at my funeral but agree this video would do in a pinch. I am still wrapping myself around how this LP took 6 months to write/record and with tracks recorded by members not present in the studio simultaneously - yet this and all of Scream are quintessentially live concert music as evidenced here (and as you will remember if you saw them live back those years). I love how Siouxsie's mic pics up the room sound as she moves around on stage. Dead serious performance by the band - just as it should be. SATB-M1 defined music in it's absolute purist form: managed dynamics - once you do that particular chords, effects, rhythms etc. do not matter - which is how they were so successful IMO.

First clear footage of how McKay plays the beginning of Placebo Effect; trying to suss that out through the ring modulator has been one of my unresolved puzzles for decades...
@LucyOLastic2 жыл бұрын
Not a ring modulator but most likely a flanger on full regeneration (Feedback). the Electric Mistress had that sound, a fixed, non modulated frequency setting which you could sweep manually. McKay definitely used one, then everyone else after him. You get a similar sound by using a digital delay on an extremely fast setting with the feedback up, so it sounds like a metallic reverb.
@Jah_Rastafari_ORIG2 жыл бұрын
@@LucyOLastic Never tried that (those), but I will now...tnx.
@LucyOLastic2 жыл бұрын
@@Jah_Rastafari_ORIG It's likely that with either it's just a case of tuning the frequency of the flanger/delay to hit that spot. The ring modulation effect be would caused by the clashing of harmonics against the fixed frequency of the flanger. Lord knows what he was playing under all that! That would be the real mystery.
@LucyOLastic2 жыл бұрын
My guess is that you'd need an Electric Mistress flanger, unless you can find one with that function of a fixed frequency. That box had a unique sound unlike any other. I used to own one. My old Soundmaster drum machine used to sound ace through that effect!

I've been on a bit of a Mk I Banshees kick over the last year or so, getting bootlegs etc. This is definitely the best video of this line-up I've come across: there are a few bits on UK TV but this short-but-sweet set is definitely the pinnacle. Best non-studio audio is the first three Peel Sessions; there was that famous Love in a Void boot LP back in the day with the first two on it, but the third one with Join Hands tracks on it was finally released on the At The BBC box in 2009ish and is well worth hunting down. Of the boots I've heard, performances are pretty uniformly good but we're largely in the recorded-on-a-potato-dropped-in-someone's-pint territory for the audio fidelity unfortunately.
@williamperri34378 ай бұрын
I can’t agree with that at all! I mean, I love this line up and wish we had 1 or 2, or even 3 more albums, but I mean Budgie replaced this drummer and Budgie was light years beyond most people and Although they had a similar style Budgie was just way better at the Drums. As far as the 2 following great guitarist that were both gone by 84, well they had their time and place in the band And I believe everything worked out the way it was supposed to! The next 4 to 5 albums that followed the original lineup were phenomenal! Don’t get me wrong, I love the original lineup!
