SIP Hydroptic 8 New Machine In The Shop

In this video I am unloading the SIP Hydroptic 8 Jig Bore Machine from the trailer and rigging it into the shop. This has been a very long process, locating the machine, setting up rigging in Arizona, finding a trucker to handle the oversize load, and figuring how to get a huge machine moved over a gravel surface.
I was able to rent a Taylor pneumatic tire, 50,000 pound capacity forklift to do the job. I tried every rigger I could find and none of them would help with this job so I had to do it myself.
A careful job, lifting, rigging, and sliding this machine into the barn took some time but well worth the effort. This Sip Jig Bore machine is well known as the most precise Jig Bore ever built. This SIP Hydroptic 8 has the horizontal spindle which makes it perfect for my needs.

Yes the SIP machines are the best. Only the hydroptic 8 came with the horizontal spindle and that is why it took me so long to find this particular machine.

The forklift was great and I am glad it was big enough to handle this machine. Lots of work getting it around the back of the barn and thru the door, but it is on the floor and I will be leveling it in the coming days.

I am going to send you via a txt today the SIP Bt50 that Kurtis over at CCE Australia just required and all the tooliing. His is a 1958, and the condition is unreal for it's age. I got get my cancer in remission and come up and give you a hand. Bear.

I served an apprenticeship in tool and die manufacturing from 1981 to 85 in Morristown NJ and they had a dedicated room for climate control to house their #8 they sent me one day to a drug store to pick up a can of chloroform which is what is called out for use to clean the glass scales.

When I bought it I was told it was built in 1967. After searching thru the paperwork I got with it the SIP corporation built it for MIT in 1950. Will keep digging for more information, there is a ton of paperwork to read thru.

It is huge and I love it. Always easier and cheaper to buy the larger machines since there is a limited amount of shops that want such a large piece of equipment.
