Telepathy, yes. Mind Flayers mouths are built more for brain-sucking than speaking, so they communicate psychically. And since they have great psychic prowess AND already have the 'mind frequency' turned on (sorry for the poor terminology), its unlikely you'd get away with mentally probing one of those guys

Mind Flayers like the emperor project their thoughts into whoever they're talking to. You are essentially reading their mind with their permission. Sips tried to read the emperors mind while already reading his mind. Doing so drove Sips' character mad..

Damn, Sips IS funny but I really hate people who play RPGs the way he played BG3, especially when I presume he was playing it while it was brand new and it's a game that an exceptional studio put an amount of work and care into that's likewise exceptional throughout industry. You really aren't going to appreciate the game in a serious capacity at all if you're just playing it for a joke. Kinda verging on being a disservice to Larian.
