the whole "engine from plant thing" just made me think of a mod that would be a little op but would be awesome. You could create a narnia mod where you can plant anything into the ground and it would be come a tree that bears that item - similar to the lamp-post growing and the toffee apple (or turkish delight something like that) tree from the books.

A better way to count blocks, rather than just counting and risking miscounting, is to get the amount you want of throwaway blocks and put the distance you want in stacks and it will stop when you run out

Even more efficient than building out of half slabs is redpower micro blocks! They can get as thin as 1/8 blocks and they can be combined together in a crafting grid to get full blocks back.

You only need 3 landmarks for the frame. The fourth, empty corner is where you put the quarry down.

A quarry without landmarks will usually use 2- 3 double chests, I do this a lot when i start out and don't have enough diamonds for all my diamond transport pipes.

The way the quarry works now is by orientation. It doesn't work well with landmarks, which is something they need to fix.

No. The reason it did not work was because the Land mark can't connect with the Land mark behind it. It needs to be placed on a corner where the line can touch the tip of the torch. A quarry only needs three Land marks to expand. The fourth corner will be automatic. A height Land mark is used for a Filler. I hope this helps, as there seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to a quarry set up. If the Land mark is not placeing on the block you want it to, I suggest removing all other blocks

Dig out all the dirt 1 block away from the sides and top of where you want to put the landmark. The landmarks work best when they look like they are straight up and down, instead of sticking out from the side of a block.

You only need three landmarks on the same level. No redstone torches. Then put the quarry next to one of the three landmarks. They can be 64x64 in perimeter
