A greatness, graciousness and humility utterly devoid in today's "actors".

Excellent documentary.

Bragg & Co must have been very respectful & deferential, to persuade Sir Alec into such a long interview. It's still obvious that he did not care to speak about himself or the actor's world

Melvin Bragg was to say years later that there was something almost spooky about Alec Guiness. A kind of other worldliness

An extraordinary actor. His Col. Sinclair is amazing as is his Monsignor Quixote.

' Last Holiday ', 1950: so many wonderful character actors ' lodging ' in that hotel, I should have lodged there forever. Although I've forgotten the name of the real hotel where ' Pinebourne ' was supposed to be, it should be simple to look it up again. I think it's time to ' take a room there ', again, turn out the lights on 2024; alas, alack !; the dvd only allows you to board there for about ninety minutes. " Mrs. Poole ! Hello....? ".

Perhaps the best interview with Alec Guinness on KZbin.

One of the finest and most versatile actors in history and on a par with Laurence Olivier in my opinion. However as a person, Alec Guinness has been described as not being the easiest of people to get on with.

Guinness was loyal to Gielgud to the end. If he liked u then u were fine. He didn't trust Olivier at all.

@@geraldinedaly6563 - Oh God, Olivier was practically despised by Guinness. Had no time for him.

At 18:18 Sir Alec looks remarkably like that other great actor Jonathan Pryce.

I have no desire to disparage Sir Alec in any way because he was a truly great actor, but I do wish that there wasn't quite so much nonsense talked about his performance in Kind Hearts and Coronets which owed a great deal to the wardrobe and makeup departments. This wonderful film belongs to Dennis Price who not only provided the brilliant narration but also played the part of Louis (the main character) and also several other roles, including his own father and a homicidal colonial Bishop. A tour de force by Price and Guinness was the first to admit this.

Difficult to listen to because of the constant crackling sound. Like an old scratchy LP record. I want very much to watch, but too wearying because of the sound.

Agreed, but was able to get past it when I took off the headphones🕊️❤️
