I'm going to see him at Carnegie in about a week. I hope he plays the Bosendorfer 280VC as he did in this performance. If not, I gather he plays a well-prepared Hamburg Steinway. Either case, I'm looking forward to a real treat.

@@jeffreylebowski4927 A lot of it comes down to various aspects of the music and taste, not necessarily to a "better or worse". There was Wilhelm Kempff and Radu Lupu _(ok, not contemporary)_ and there still are Perahia and Pires ...

The recording he perhaps 20 years earlier--before he became "Andras Schiff"--is not "mannered" as this one tends to be at times and is more naturally and deeply felt. This performance is still way beyond the rest of today's pianists. I never miss a Schiff recital in NYC even though I now live over 300 miles away. 9:58

Did you went to his Carnegie Hall recital in April? 4 Schubert Sonatas, it was STUNNING!

Muy bonito ....aunque con ciertas libertades rítmicas en el impromptu n 2, ¿por qué cambiar las corcheas por semicorcheas? El efecto es muy distinto, lo siento. Me parece raro...

Part of Schnabel's great insight that sets his playing apart from that of most others lies in his being a composer. And by the way he insisted that his students compose (even if they were not good at it).

@@GoldinDr And although Schiff is not to my knowledge a composer, he did study the analysis of music with the great composer Kurtag. And it really shows! You always have a sense of how the music works, sometimes, especially in voicings, going against all received opinion.

@spiritussanctusband3 жыл бұрын

Schiff is standing on the stage in that picture right at the end with hands clasped like a priest. This is the same man who preaches hatred about his native Hungary. All the time. Hypocrisy.
@gaborozorai37144 жыл бұрын
Correction: not against Hungary but against the current government of Hungary which is a cleptocracy with no values or direction other than the absolute imperative of retaining power and thus the ability to pocket ever greater fortunes through cronies, aka national oligarchs. Mr. Schiff's only misunderstanding is that they are not anti-semitic: they will be anti anything at all or pro anything at all as long as it will keep their core voters faithful and win them the next elections.
@MrKlemps Жыл бұрын
@@gaborozorai3714 What you say about the Orban regime is entirely correct. As it happens there are threats to Hungary even further toward the tyrannical (and the truly antisemitic) than the current regime and some feel that Orban is the only leader strong enough to keep them at bay.
