Sir Andrew Davis had a remarkably wide repertoire which included a number of orchestrations of Bach's music by such musicians as Leopold Stokowski, Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Henry Wood. Indeed, Sir Andrew himself made several arrangements of Bach's music and was working on them at the time of his death in April 2024.
In 2001, the BBC Symphony mounted a "Tribute to Stokowski" concert in London's Royal Festival Hall. The final item was Stokowski's orchestration of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." It brought the house down, so to give the audience in the sold-out hall something extra, Sir Andrew conducted the great maestro's 'symphonic transcription' of a solemn sacred song by Bach, "Komm süsser Tod." Here it is, 'In Memoriam' Sir Andrew Davis himself. (2 February 1944 -20 April 2024).
