Sherlock Holmes is a popular choice for the Christmas schedules, especially his darker stories such as The Hound of the Baskervilles. This particular adaptation was broadcast as part of a season entitled 'Murder at Christmas', and features Tim Piggot-Smith - with his perfectly clipped diction - as Holmes. I dare say they could have made a series out of his interpretation but in the event that didn't happen - and when Holmes returned at Christmas 1988 he was played by Roger Rees.
