How about getting back the bonuses or a percentage(50% at least) of them for the last 10 years. The shareholders who have enjoyed the 'profits' should also have to pay back some of them as well. That way we tax payers who are held to ransom by the water monopolies don't have to double dip to pay for the investment in the infrastructure that the water rates were supposed to have funded since they were privatised by the Conservatives.

What are the parents telling these young men ? My husband passed his test 2 weeks after his 17th birthday and was gifted a car by his father, who instilled in him the notion that he is driving a DEADLY weapon, I suspect this hit home more as my FIL was a WW2 paratrooper and knew what death was. 50 years later he has never had a point on his licence and never had an accident while he was in the car despite driving up and down the country ( his car has been hit three times while parked)

How can the state / taxpayer pay out £10 billion to the women who lost pension money through poor communication? With a £22 billion black hole, it would be a large chunk of public money in one payout. It would, however, be possible to pay the women incrementally over a few years so that they do get the ombudsman-advised compensation.

Spain is a great railroad system. My sisters took a train from Barcelona to Lorca 400 km cost €32 . Compare it to an equal distance journey in the UK. London to Newcastle £120 and that was in 1990.
