Can anyone explain to me why these women are actually entitled to anything? The change was made in 1995, does no one look at their pension age at any point in 30 years?? Should men not be compensated for having to retire later for so long, especially as in those days they were traditionally doing more physical labour? Really unsure why these women are protesting. As a woman in my late 30s I doubt I’ll retire until my 70s, it’s very hard to feel too much sympathy. This feels like yet another case of boomers trying claw more money from working age people 🤷♀️
@julielawlor54827 сағат бұрын
Read up on it properly and you will understand
@lenaoxton88276 сағат бұрын
@ I’ve read more and still don’t see it sorry. The change in pension age was communicated so much even I was aware of it. It was EVERYWHERE. And surely it’s people’s own responsibility to know when they can retire? Why did they assume for years and years, that’s what doesn’t make sense to me. In my lifetime, my own retirement possibilities have gone up and up and I doubt they will stop. Did they literally spend all their money in the hopes that they would get a pension at 60? Why did they not plan or prepare their retirement in any way? And sorry but their generation owns most houses and most wealth. I will likely be renting in a shared home until I die, probably won’t be able to retire until my 70s, and who knows how that will be funded by the time I get there. The boomer age group is unbelievably entitled and has no idea what the rest of the country is going through. Imagine owning a home, having a pension, and then getting angry that the government stops giving you free fuel. Meanwhile there are working parents starving to feed their kids and freezing at home. Where is the boomer outrage for this? There is none, they only have outrage when it affects them. Bizarre that they dress like suffragettes as though they are fighting for equality. This pension change IS equality. How is it fair that men have had later pensions for so long, especially when they statistically die younger. I’m glad there is equality in pensions now. Someone has to be at the cut off point, and it was surely these women’s responsibility to know their own situation. I doubt anyone in a younger generation could ever IMAGINE closing their eyes and just assuming we would get paid. But hey, we weren’t handed benefits on a plate our whole lives like boomer age people. They’ve been so used to hand outs that they can’t stand when something is taken away. Meanwhile they are always the ones complaining about benefits to others. Hilarious. Forgive me for not having sympathy but by the time I get to their age I don’t expect a state pension, I would never expect my fuel to be paid for, I don’t expect I’ll own a house, and I don’t expect I’ll be anywhere close to being able to retire.

All the people complaining need to explain where the money is coming from. We have to be honest in this country and realise we are broke as a nation and there are two choices. We can go back to basics and the government need to account for every penny of tax they currently receive and make cuts where needed and invest in the essentials until the books are balanced and make policies to get the economy moving and are business friendly. The second option is to raise taxes to invest in infrastructure that the taxpayer today will not benefit today but in 10-15 years. But with this country most people want a hand out and instant results which is unrealistic.

This has nothing to do with the Labour government though. Quote The Conservative government announced its plans to raise the state pension age for women in 1993, with the plan being to increase it gradually between 2010 and 2020. In 2010, the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition then sped up the process. According to a parliamentary ombudsman, the government met the expected standards on communication on this issue between 1995 and 2004. But it said "decision-making between 2005 and 2007 led to a 28-month delay in starting to send letters to 1950s-born women". The ombudsman said research reported in 2004 showed information about the changes was not reaching the people who needed it most. But the government "failed to take this feedback into account properly", the ombudsman said. The government proposed writing directly to the women affected in November 2006, but did not do so until December 2007. End quote It's irrelevant what the John Major led Conservative government of 1993 implemented. It has zero importance to the 2024 Labour government. They were not in power in 1993. You can argue Keir Starmer and the Labour Party are liars for saying the Waspi women should be helped: Kier Starmer in 2022 Quote "I think this is a real injustice. We need to do something about it because that wasn't the basis you paid in." ... but it's not the responsibility of the 2024 Labour government to rectify problems/compensate people for past Conservative policy. Ultimately it's not a Labour commitment. It wasn't a manifesto pledge. I don't mean that to dismiss the cause but each new government has to start from a clean slate. It inherits the economy (good or bad) from the previous government but it has to start from a clean slate and not be shackled by past incompetence. The harsh reality is the Labour government were not in power in 1993 and the Blair/Brown governments of 1997 to 2010 never dealt with the issue adequately. It has nothing to do with Kier Starmer's government.

Labour did paint themselves into a corner with the promise to not increase taxes. Fact is the employee pwnsion contribution is too low for the pension being received. It should have been increased to at least 7% a long time ago. As for WASPI compensation, the key problem is the blanket compensation. Should people be compensated for not knowing that the pension age was being increased for 15 years? So, any compensation should have been limited to those affected by the accelerated increase in pension age.

You overlook the fact we started work in the 70’x. We were never treated equally throughout most of our working lives unlike todays women. We were paid less often while doing same job as male colleagues, had less promotion opportunities and were often prevented from being given same pension schemes as our male colleagues. Then we were not told our pension age had changed - clearly you are too young to appreciate this but I hope when you are about to retire you don’t suddenly find out you have to work 6 more years and no-one told you

@@ramblingrosevanlifeSometimes life isn’t fair, the rest of the country can’t afford to pay you because you didn’t plan for your own retirement. We are all starving and freezing ourselves.

There is a silver lining to this decision,it means there is more money to give away to foreigners and their countries,isn’t it nice to have an extremely benevolent prime monster

A kick in the teeth however what got to me was the smirk on the face of Rayner today in westminster. Watch the footage and see for yourself. Her new nickname should be Sneaky Pete, what a horrible piece she really is.

@@Brenda-ff7zk i live in England. Scotland get free dentistry and other benefits. I'm prepared to say Wales and England, but for tax purposes, I can't say UK in that sense as yes we're together but the tax is not paid nor used the same in all four and Scotland and Ireland seem to have their own government and laws.
