SIR Patrick tells stories just like my Grandpa. Once he gets started, there are stories within stories within stories. Sometimes, by the time, we'd gotten to the end of the original, it was hours later, but we were completely entertained the entire time. :-)

Norton said once that his secret is in the green room and dressing rooms. His producers find out what each guest's favorite drink is ahead of time, and they are greeted with a bottle of the best of their favorite beverage, and glasses, and are encouraged to relax and enjoy a drink or two. When they get on to the interview couch they have reached the talkative stage of being merry enough to be revealing. I don't know if he was just spinning a yarn or not, but his guests do seem to be very talkative and revealing...

It's the format. Rather than getting five-minutes-max to plug whatever they need to plug, they sit there for forty-five-minutes-or-so just seeing where the conversation takes them. If one or two guests aren't talkative, the others pick-up the slack. And the drinks help.

For those who are curious: A knighthood (Sir) or a damehood (Dame) is an award given by the king or queen of the United Kingdom (UK), currently Queen Elizabeth II, to an individual for a major, long-term, contribution in any activity, usually at a national or international level. While there is no set time of year that someone can be nominated for the knighthood, the queen usually bestows the honor as part of the New Year’s honors list. People can be nominated for knighthood, although the government reportedly helps the queen decide who the best choice is to be knighted. Public figures, such as actors and musicians, have been knighted in the past for their contributions to the UK, whether that’s through bringing money to the nation or representing it favorably. (excerpted from Showbiz Cheatsheet)
@piers3894 жыл бұрын
No, that's wrong. The Queen has no say in who receives an honour - it's entirely up to the government and nominations (with very limited exceptions).
@rex-racer4 жыл бұрын
Piers, thanks. According to bbc.com, the queen does not choose who’s on the list (various committees do), but she is presented with the list for final approval.
@piers3894 жыл бұрын
@@rex-racer The 'final approval' part is complicated and more of a formality. If HM decided to say 'no', there would likely be a serious constitutional crisis. It's similar with HM discussing matters with the PM of the day on a weekly basis - it's tradition and the power is technically there, but using it is an entirely different matter.

Graham calling sir circles “sircles” kills me everytime. His sense of humour is fantastic, made even better by the fact that people often don’t realise that he’s terribly funny because he shines such wonderful spotlights on his guests

I could sit there and listen to Sir Patrick Stewart tell stories with the thanks of my current career. Sometimes those stories are amazing to hear about someone’s early years.

Michael B. Jordan asks, "Sunset Tower?" And he's right. That's where the Tower Bar is. Good thing they brushed him off, or we wouldn't have had all those jokes.
