Taeyeon has been living with Tiffany since pre-debut. She never had much confidence speaking but she understands a lot and her vocabulary is full of slang, cursing, all kinds of pop culture references, exaggerated american accent and adjectives Tiffany uses, because making fun of her "american friend" is Taeyeon's favorite thing. Sooyoung and Seohyun can speak English really well now. Hyoyeon and Yuri have improved a lot too in recent years. Sunny isn't showing her English much but she reads books in English and spends time with friends and family in US, so she's better than this video shows, I'd imagine.

I wouldn't say SNSD is horrible at English. Over the years, Tiffany and Jessica did help the members improve a lot and some members like Sooyoung and Seohyun studied really hard to be better at it too. I mean you can tell that they understand English and Taeyeon sings English usually without an accent (which I love).

You may not know this yet but the big four SNSD ships ('The Royal Couples') are TaeNy (Taeyeon & Tiffany), TaengSic (Taeyeon & Jessica), YulSic (Yuri & Jessica) and YoonYul (Yoona & Yuri). I was a huge locksmith (Taeny shipper) back in the day but for a long time, my favourite duo has been SooFany. They aren't AS skinship-y but once you get really into the group you'll notice how close they are. Tiffany is the unofficial third Choi daughter. Any time she goes to Korea, even if it's a brief thing that she can't meet with all the girls, she'll always make time for Sooyoung. A big thing with idols is that idol parents will usually take care of the business side of things like contract negotiations so that it doesn't come in the way of the relationship between company and idol (at least theoretically, in practice it doesn't generally work like that). A lot of idols also get their start really young so it just makes sense that their parents represent them, particularly when a lot of these kids haven't finished or dropped out of high school. Tiffany had no parents. Her mum had passed away and she was estranged from her dad in the U.S. While the other SNSD parents would go in for their daughters' negotiations, Tiffany would go in and represent herself. Particularly in the early years when Tiffany didn't have great Korean, Mrs. Choi would advocate for Tiffany as well as Sooyoung and would help her to understand her contract. The Chois also looked after Tiffany in other ways. During holidays because Tiffany had no family to go home to, Tiffany would also go to their home for Chuseok etc. and she went to church with the Chois. Tiffany and Sooyoung have such a special bond and while they're all 'sisters', for Sooyoung and Tiffany, I think that's probably even closer to the truth. They're all close to each other as well. YoonA and Taeyeon have been close (YoonTae). Sunny and YoonA have been hanging out the most after Sica's departure. Hyoyeon and Taeyeon were the awkward couple but now get along well to be together. Still some awkwardness since they're opposites but understand each other. Tiffany and Yuri have also shown to always be paired up with each other during events and recently Yuri having Tiffany in her cooking channel. Tiffany also shows off her support to all of them on instagram

When Tiffany speaks in fluent english, most members understands what she's saying especially Taeyeon and Seohyun. Through the years the rest of the members have improved a lot! Idk how to explain this but I've been learning korean for a while now and I understand most words in dialogues I hear but I still don't have the courage to speak the language mostly bec of fear of committing grammatical errors plus I am not sure if I comprehended the whole sentence correctly. So I am thinking that's also the case with them 😅

They are all now pretty good at English actually, the Oh!GG members have shown that they are capable of holding (basic) conversations in English in Girls For Rest, their reality show back in 2018 which was shot in France, Sooyoung has improved a lot as you can see in the video and Seohyun has become quite comfortable with English now judging from her ig live at christmas’s eve last year

I suggested some weeks ago that it could be very good for you to learn hangul writing system. Despite its weird look, it's completely phonetic and each square block defines a syllable! It only has 40 written letters (19 consonants and 21 vocalic sounds: 8 real vowels as such, and 13 dyphtongs). The korean language lacks fricative sounds such as /f/, /v/ or /θ/... that's why they say "tipanny" or "everyting" in some situations, if the speaker doesn't strive to pronounce them correctly. In fact, hangul is quite easy and can be learnt in 2 or 3 hours following some KZbin tutorials, where you might even learn very basic korean words.

Sooyoung was famous for pretending like she could speak English. I cringe because she's actually very smart but it made her sound dumb. Eventually, around 2018-2019 she worked on it a lot and actually became pretty fluent when she became more of an international spokesmodel for Cadillac and some cosmetic brands. As you saw, Seohyun was the first of the non-native speakers to really master English and sounds very "American", but it almost seems weird after all these years.

Actually they have improved a lot now. especially taeyeon (well maybe bcos she was so super close to tiffany also and they were together most of the time). In her ig lives she sometimes speak english and her pronounciation was good. She had also a show with zero (her dog) before where was filmed in LA.
