I have the alder bodies, so they are a medium weight. Like a vintage Jazz bass. Swamp ash is light. hard ash is very heavy, like the 70's Fenders. These are all i have, so it's hard for me to comment on the other bodies. The alder is a great weight for me. Not heavy at all.

Great review. You're killing me with these custom color Sires! (How do you get them?) I've got 3 of these basses (all lefties: V7, V7 vintage, and fretless). I'm not sure the "upgrades" are worth another $50 on retail, and you didn't mention that they're no longer giving you a gigbag with the bass, so that's another $50 = $100 more total now from the 1st generation. My original V7 cost me $399 in June 2015, and in less than 4 years these things have now creeped up to double that retail price.
@JBass696 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Those are one off colors they did for me. They don't offer them and it's really just a very nice gesture on their part, but I have asked them to produce some limited custom colors, so hopefully we will see that. I didn't know about the gig bags, but these new Gen 2 basses are a huge step up. Understand that I don't endorse Sire. I don't have any agreement with them when I'm doing these videos. If a company wants to send me a bass, I'll do an honest review on it. It's all just in my opinion from playing great vintage Jazz Basses all my life. Personally I think these basses are still a steal at $750. I'm playing this in comparison to my custom $15k 69 Jazz and it sounds real good. I've played it on quite a few gigs and that's saying a lot when I own many 60's J Basses. I think you would notice a big difference and agree it's worth the upgrade.

The color on the review bass reminds me of a once-offered color called, Capri Orange, available on Fender's International Series, from the early 1980's. This was about the time that Fender was beginning to make their climb out of the shithouse, as far as the overall quality control. And, imho, I think Fender Japan was directly responsible for pulling the company out of said shithouse, by basically forcing Fender USA to up the quality significantly on their US-built instruments. As a matter of fact, my favorite 4-string to play live with, is my MIJ J-Bass Special, that I've gigged to within an inch of it's life. But, to be completely fair, that doesn't include my pre-CBS '61 stack knob Jazz, that I've owned, and gigged with since the early/mid 80's, while still in high school. But, my MIJ Fender will more than hold it's own, and it'd almost certainly be a photo finish with my vintage stuff, as far as tone, and playability is concerned.

Wonderful sounding bass. I only play J basses, similar sound that you like. But I also like to turn down the neck pickup( down, not off) for a little more of the Jaco sound for when I play melodies or solos. I hate the single coil hum, Which is why all my basses have hum cancelling pickups. I would have to change the pickups if I bought one. Also I like the Hipshot A style quick release brass bridges. So if I made those changes I would still be under 1000.- dollars for that bass. Seems totally worth it. But because I would change the electronics anyway ( I'm not crazy about a mid control on the bass) I might just try to get a good deal on a 1st Generation and file the frets smooth on the edges myself. Is the finger board radius the same or is it different from the first generation? Great review, thanks.

Action so low that the strings were practically laying on the fretboard and touching the pickups, which were also too high. My bass did not come with D'addarios. No tag and no colored ball ends. The trussrod wrench was stripped. Fortunately it was just the wrench and not the nut. Sire was out of stock for the bass I wanted so I bough it from a Dealer. (Chuck Levins) I don'i know if someone there messed it up but it was really terrible. Fortunately I know how to setup basses and I was able to get it to play and sound beautifully.
