Yes it is. If you love this, you should really listen to the albums "At Sixes and Sevens" and "An Elixir For Existance" (This is where the song Euphoria came from) This was Sirenia at their peak. I wouldn't suggest to Listen to "Nine Destinies and a downfall" or "The 13th Floor" as the classical instruments, the clean male vocals, and growls have been stripped sadly...unless you're into that style too. But let me tell you, I was saddened when they did that

Fabienne, the French vocalist, was the session singer on At Sixes And Sevens. She was followed on An Elixir For Existence by Henriette Bordvik, who I think was actually considered a member of the band, and then replaced by Monika Pederson on Nine Destinies. Now they are looking for a new vocalist...

It's gothic metal. Many of these bands mix growls with female vocals. You should listen to Tristania's old albums if you like this! They were, just like Sirenia's songs are, composed by Morten Veland.

Completely agree with the best gothic metal bands part! Don't forget Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. I do like Sirenia alot though, I just don't consider them pure gothic metal. They're a mix of gothic, death, symphonic etc

@ComaLies225 I also seemed to forget to mention that Nightwish became mainstream way before Anette joined. Century Child and Once completely changed them to the point Turunen's vocals aren't even as operatic as they used to be and the direction of music changed. Clearly, someone was either ignorant, misguided or just needed to jump on the hate anette band wagon.

sometimes there must be a balance between embracing what you love and submitting to a functional part of the system, yet, your ideals will always remain within you and no one can take them away noting how dorky (even if truthful) that sounds I can tell you there are ways to function within this system without sacrificing aspects of yourself for the sakes of society, but you have to be REALLY good at it. then the system submits to you, not the other way around

I think the original Poster was thinking of Symphonic Metal but couldn't word the genre right. Anyways, anyone who says Nightwish became a pop band are clearly misguided. They're last album still sounds as epic as ever and still uses a combination of classical instruments and metal. Just because Anette isn't singing in an operatic style doesn't mean the genre of the band changed.

@ComaLies225 well yes, they changed their style. And they clearly aren't pop now. Still, while Annette may be a good singer, she just doesn't suit Nightwish. If you check out her singing in follow me by pain, that's a song that suits her far better for example. It's true that Nightwish went more mainstream if you want to put it that way, but they still made great songs. They still make great songs, but I'll personally never get happy with Annette.

So, old NW isn´t opera metal. Tarja has got opera voice, but "SoloDomoProductions" have right: opera metal isn´t a bonifide genre... Old Nightwish is symphonic metal in my opinion... And new NW is some between symphonic metal and rock, I can´t describe it...Anyway, Anett´s got rock voice, so that she isn´t good choice for them...In music of course, I think that Anett is otherwise fine....
