Does the Sirio Boomerang 27a need to be earth grounded? To be clear, a copper wire from the mast to a grounding rod in the ground. I’ve herd mixed answers. Thanks!

@@cheesecracker3977 I thought about getting this meter as well. Still liking the 870? I did read a few reviews stating you have to have a 10w dead key for the SWR to be accurate, do you find this to be true?
@cheesecracker39772 жыл бұрын
@@jeepzcb09 I believe 3 watts is all the meter needs. I tried it with a 5 watt, 20 watt and 40 watt deadkey and it reads about the same, just a little bit higher with 40 watts. Overall I like the meter, but the switches to change the different settings on the meter are cheap and may not grip the internal rod properly after a while. I have seen a couple of complaints about that.

How's the Boomerang doing with the skip?
@cheesecracker39772 жыл бұрын
This antenna work very well for skip. I have talked to Australia a few times lately with a 100 watts or less. Considering I am in a two story townhouse community surrounded by homes I am a bit surprised with all the contacts I get. I will be selling my place soon and hopefully will get an antenna up in the air about 40 ft. But this will be used when I move for a while.

How has this held up?

The antenna works good considering my mounting location. I have made quite a few DX contacts with it when I have got lucky enough to get some conditions. As far as the antenna itself I am not sure how it would handle strong winds. The lower section of the whip seems kind of flimsy to me. I usually unscrew the antenna and take it down when I am gone from home or if a strong storm comes my way. I would probably go with something better for a permanent antenna. It does tune well though.

How far can you get out locally?
@cheesecracker39773 жыл бұрын
@@robertbailey2342 on sideband I have talked up to about 50 miles to a mobile radio. I also have talked to base stations about 60 miles away. But he has higher elevation and a beam antenna.

Turn your squelch up next time! I notice a bend in the radiator. Good low SWR.
@cheesecracker39773 жыл бұрын
the antenna works good but yeah it bends easy. it is good enough for my current living situation. i will try to turn the squelch up next time. i usually run my rf gain and squelch wide open though.

i know I'm kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch newly released movies online ?

11 meter base antenna works best at 36 feet of the ground at the base of the antenna. Static is horrible at best.
