As a language teacher, I recommend this channel to all language lovers. Mispronunciation greatly reduces self-confidence and may destroy the motivation of the learner. The scientific and not so complicated strategy of this channel is very informative for pronunciation.

As an English speaker, I found this video really interesting and learned a lot about my own language. Can I ask what was the most surprising insight you gained about English while researching this Gabe?

What are the rules to pronounce "ocean"? For a very long time I thought (based on other words I was exposed to) that it should sound bit like "oh seen"

The rule is that whenever an unstressed vowel that should sound like /i/ or /j/ by itself comes between a sibilant and another unstressed vowel, the sibilant becomes palatalized and the /i/ or /j/ drops out. visual → /ˈvɪz.ju.əl/ → /ˈvɪʒ.u.əl/ mission → /ˈmis.i.ən/ → /ˈmɪʃ.ən/ ocean → /ˈəʊ.si.ən/ → /ˈəʊ.ʃən/

How come some short vowel sounds in single-syllable words are followed by doubled consonants and others aren’t? Compare mass vs mat, ebb vs web, riff vs if, etc. Is it another spelling rule, or is it some other reason?

thank you for this video but it seems to me that you forgot the vowels ɜː,ɔːand the fact that one would say that any spelling could give a schwa for instance in awe/ɔː/ lurk /lɜːk/ and about /əˈbaʊt/ can you maybe add something with this regard? Thanks
