Eminem On Sobriety, 'Relapse', What Led to 'Rap God' | Paul Pod Ep. 6 | SiriusXM

Eminem’s second greatest hits album, Curtain Call 2, gives listeners a retrospective on the last ten years of Mr. Mathers’ Hall of Fame Career. From Recovery onward, Eminem has ventured into new spaces - sober and ever so slightly matured from the constant lighting rod of controversy that veiled his entry into the industry. With songs like “Love the Way You Lie”, “Lighters”, “Walk on Water”, and “Godzilla” Eminem spread his wings to include collaborations with contemporary voices like Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, and the late Juice WRLD. During this era, Eminem also honed in on the character which the culture has called him for years- a “Rap God”. Curtain Call 2 is an amalgamation of Marshall’s journey forward (and sometimes backwards!) into an eventual legendary status. Throughout this maturation, Eminem’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg has been with him through the thick and the thin. Paul Pod finally turns its attention towards the wizard himself. Paul and Em sit down in the first of a 2 part conversation about the making of Curtain Call 2.

Recovery another phenomenal album! I remember I never let the boys listen to the song “So Bad”. Later my youngest, Noah told me he snuck my iPod and listen to it. Lol for the record I allowed the boys to listen to Eminem because one day my son who has anxiety very bad, the oldest one does. He asked me how do you acquire confidence. I may have said some things but I remember playing lose yourself. And then I would let them listen to certain songs. Now, they are 17 and 21 and they listen to it all. His songs saved me (I had two monsters living in my house) and Marshall writes different songs for every kind of emotion, I’m sure many others, too. I’m devastated he feels so hurt by his peers/critics! He’s allowed to have albums that do what he does: push boundaries (he’s done it his entire career)! I loved so many songs on “Relapse” ohhh, “Underground”…unbelievable! I’m a nonStan fan but I just wish I knew where I could send him a thank you! Thank you, Paul and DRE and RIP PROOF! ❤️

The NEW songs on the original "Curtain Call: The Hits" were "FACK", "When I'm Gone" and "Shake That (feat. Nate Dogg)" RIP Nate Dogg. Paul forgot about "Shake That". That was a great fucking song. Nowhere near as brilliant as the song "FACK", but I mean that's the greatest song ever written. Even EM thinks so. I laughed so hard that I started full-on crying when I first heard "FACK". No sarcasm whatsoever, FACK is one of my favourite songs EM's ever made. I absolutely love his silly side. EM is one of the funniest humans on the planet. N I LOVE the accents! Relapse is a goddamn masterpiece! I don't care what EM thinks about it, he's always too hard on himself. RELAPSE is facking brilliant. What an epic comeback album. I am dead serious. Em went back to what he did to create the Eminem show, then successfully did that with Recovery. And that was his best album since Eminem show. This is something plenty rappers can do, but they choose to stick with their new flow and new concepts. But Em fully switched to wordplay Em after Recovery, apparently because of what Wayne & Hov were doing. I’d tell him to just stick to making quality music instead of trying to out rap everybody. Odd how he said he went BACK to wordplay, when realistically he only sprinkled that style into his albums. Now, he’s all about rappitty rap.

He talks to eminem sorta like how police try to interrogate a suspect for a specific answer by being their friend. Side note, em seemed very quiet after you were glad he survived so you could still record with him. Not that he was alive and well but that he could record

When I feel like I'm outraged I just open up Relapse the whlee thing and just reciting after him all those songs. You feel like a pervertedest monster and just monster, and you can feel every inch of his grappling through your vessel because of the way that he delivers, one thing to rap the other thing is to align with the sadistic type of flow and beat, dark and nothing except dark. I love this bloody imagery that he represents. However when he was going through rough shit it wasn't that fun, but now it's worth it
