Counter and Metal Burst are very similar moves. The way Counter works is that if the opponent goes first and hits with a physical move, the user strikes back with *double* the power. Jaiden's Charizard nearly one-shot the Hitmontop, so the Counter was a guaranteed kill regardless of type advantages. Metal Burst is almost the same, except it deals 1.5 x the opponent's attack rather than double so it's a bit weaker, but I'm assuming the same scenario happened where Jaiden almost killed it and all that damage was reflected right back at her

Counter (as well as it's Special counterpart, Mirror Coat) also has negative priority, which means the user is guaranteed to move last. Metal Burst however does not modify priority in any way, so it's really only good on Pokemon that are naturally very slow....like Bastiodon. Metal Burst also doesn't care if the move that triggers it is physical or special. Metal Burst is particularly deadly if the Pokemon using it has the Sturdy ability, as that will pretty much guarantee a kill with Metal Burst. Counter & Mirror Coat are the main reasons why Wobuffet is so terrifying in a Nuzlocke (not to mention it's Shadow Tag ability which prevents you from being able to switch out and run away).

In a soul link you have to make sure that both teams have as balanced of a team as you can. Remember, if one of your members die both sides could loose a mon that made theit teams more balanced.

The reason they couldn't have Kyorge on the team for John is because Jaiden already had Empleon. You can only have ONE type for each team as she explained in the beginning both to keep it balanced and to add a challenge. So if John took Kyorge than Jaiden would of had to bench her water type for a poison type. Which than would have meant they couldn't use Mewtwo Victrobel either as Victorbel is grass/posion. It's hard to make a team without overlap in a soulink. Thats why they went in with only 5 pokemon since no other types could fit in. Talk about working overtime

Why would Bubble Beam not work against Lugia? Lugia is a Psychic/Flying-type, which means water attacks would do neutral damage.
