There has not been a huge increase in autism it is just that there is more awareness of the condition (due to social media etc) and also an increase in diagnoses. Once upon a time in Nigeria children who were unfortunate to suffer from autism were just classed as being "slow, strange or even possessed" and were hidden away (or sent for deliverance) instead of being diagnosed. Vaccinations are important and those parents who prevent their children from having them (blaming the fear of autism) are just putting their kids and others at risk, they should not be encouraged. Those parents need to see a child suffering (dying) from measles to realize that "not having a bath for fear of drowning is different from falling in the sea without a life jacket".

I am an immunology PhD and a nurse. My son was also diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder 3 years ago. Yes he showed signs of a normal child development right until he was about 2. It was a tough diagnosis to learn but there are interventions to help children on the spectrum. My son is almost 6 now and improving each day. In spite of my own situation, I do think vaccinations are still important. There is too much at risk without them. A lot of reasearchers in immunology have searched for a link between vaccines and autism and we have not found any yet. There are other links that have been made including what type of gut bacteria a child has. But like you rightly stated, there is no cure. I hope one day we find one!

Beautiful Sisi Yemmie! I so look forward to these weekly vlogs. *Vaccinations: When it comes to vaccines,I can't afford to get confused. I just pray before going with my babies, and I cry with them. I know some people, especially one who refuse to get their children vaccinated, one of the children is now an adult. There are so many not vaccinating, and other choose not to with different results. You just have to pray and trust your motherly instinct. *You have such a beautiful family. Tiara is so cute. My Titoby is so handsome. Hi Mr.Bobo🙋 I miss your car conversations.

Sisi. You did well vaccinating your baby. As a Med Dr who has practiced in Nigeria and now overseas-my 2 cents is it's far safer for a child to be vaccinated living in Africa especially. Remember that most of the people you watch online who do not vaccinate their children live in western countries and have healthcare readily accessible. Where I reside at present, a child with Meningococcal disease would easily get that first dose of antibiotic IV within 30minutes of initial presentation to me in my GP clinic without paying a cent. So it makes it easier to decline vaccination as good healthcare is somewhat readily available. That's not the case in Naija. In the western world we worry more about herd immunity because as immunisation rates drop we typically get more outbreaks of these vaccine preventable diseases. Herd immunity also protects those children who cannot be immunised due to active cancer or other illnesses causing immune suppression. The link to autism is false but as we know the disproving of the supposed link doesn't get as much media coverage as the initial false claim. If you need more answers to your queries I'm happy to email you some articles that might help.

Sis Yemmie, vaccinating your child is great 👌 for the child. MMR (measles mumps and rubella) is what anti vaxers claimed causes autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The claim was that multiple vaccines taken as one injection puts that child at risk which in not true. I work with children with ASD (mainly) and other special needs too. I'm based in Canada. Children not vaccinated are not allowed in school and schools that allow such children make the parent(s) sign a waiver. Vaccinating a child does not cause ASD. A lot of factors are responsible for ASD (genes and the environment) no 2 children have the same needs even twins. I have worked with (currently working in this feild) more than 30 clients (including sets of twins) with ASD and none of them have the same diagnosis. Check out this link www.autismspeaks.ca/about/about-autism/what-causes-autism/ See this link also. It's embedded in the one above and discusses vaccines and Autism. It also includes the summary of a few research that confirm there is no risk of ASD from MMR. www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/immunizations/Pages/Vaccine-Studies-Examine-the-Evidence.aspx

Totally agree with you. Vaccination is not linked with autism at all. As a matter of fact autism, down's syndrome can be determined whilst the woman is still pregnant. At 12week scan , extra blood samples are taken for screening. Its completely optional and it us up to you to choose if you want the test done or not in the UK.

The studies linking autism to vaccination is done by very unreliable and problematic doctors. I am a med student and have done research on this. The cause of autism is a totally different scenario. Everything just looks so magnified now bc people have access to talk about it and people have started treating mental health more importantly. Autism, dyslexia and every other illness has always been prevalent.

Hi SisiYemmie, many people express concern about potential negative side effects from vaccines. These concerns range from fears about overloading the child’s immune system to controversial reports about devastating side effects of the vaccines. One misapprehension is that the vaccine itself might cause the disease it is supposed to be immunizing against. Another commonly circulated concern is that vaccinations, specifically the MMR vaccine (MMR stands for measles, mumps, and rubella), are linked to autism. The autism connection has been particularly controversial. In 1998, a British physician named Andrew Wakefield published a study in Great Britain’s Lancet magazine that linked the MMR vaccine to autism. The report received a lot of media attention, resulting in British immunization rates decreasing from 91 percent in 1997 to almost 80 percent by 2003, accompanied by a subsequent rise in measles cases (Devlin 2008). A prolonged investigation by the British Medical Journal proved that not only was the link in the study nonexistent, but that Dr. Wakefield had falsified data in order to support his claims (CNN 2011). Dr. Wakefield was discredited and stripped of his license, but the doubt still lingers in many parents’ minds. Awww...Tiara is sooo cute 😊. I always feel like crying when they inject a child. 😅 About vaccination, I talked about it in one of my previous videos. There is no proof and even if there is something remotely regarded as proof, it only showed that the child already had autism but it was triggered earlier by vaccination. But that's not even confirmed. On the other hand, there are lots of data and research that shows that not vaccinating your child puts the child at risk of plenty dangerous illnesses. So it is better to vaccinate and pray for your child while at it. 😊

If you have not walked in the shoes of a parent whose children were developing neurotypically before vaccinations; then you have no basis to judge their perspective. Nevertheless, just make sure your children get ample omega 3 to support brain function and development. Early intervention is also key. It's tough but miracles are happening daily.

When the nurse was giving her the injection, it just reminded me of my childhood. Awww cute Tiara. Such a strong baby :) Thanks sisiyemmie for sharing your vlog. Vaccination isn't the cause of autism. In some states in the US right now, there is increased levels of measles outbreak because some parents (maybe due to religious reasons) refuse to vaccinate their kids causing other people (especially vulnerable kids) to be at risk of contracting the disease.

Another thing that people don’t consider is that there are more children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders because of the greater awareness we have now and the change in the diagnostic criteria which allows more children who would otherwise have just be labeled as just odd to fall under the ASD umbrella. Vaccinations have been going on so long in the west that they have forgotten what epidemics look like but in Nigeria we have very recent cases of polio and others that we can look to for the benefits of vaccines. There is also evidence that suggests that ASD is present a lot earlier than we previously thought (mostly like children are born with it) but we just notice at the 3-4 years because that is when we notice they don’t interact with others the way we expect. There are a few TED talks and scholarly articles that going in to this.

The issue of immunizations is what ingredients are in it. Once you are informed about these chemicals, you will think twice. I worked with Autistic children and their parents stories about vaccinations is astounding. Of course there isnt studies because of the pharmaceutical industry. They are a monopoly

Sisi Yemmy the claim that MMR is the cause of autism is not correct. I have a 20 years daughter who has autism. Like you said she was developing well and suddenly stopped. I remember when I took her to the doctor he could not explain why but only that something came and switched off her development. As an African woman living in the U.K. I was confused. The interesting part of this is that I did not get MMR for her. I don’t know why I refused it at the time but glad I didn’t because I would have blamed her autism on MMR. I have recently started a KZbin channel when I am sharing my story hoping it will help and support some mother’s going through what I have been through. Also it will educate people whose children are not autistic but has friends or family with children with autism. I’m glad you vaccinated her but like all mothers we worry everyday about our children. Congratulations on the birth of Tiara and good luck. By the way she is a cutie! 😘

Presently in the the United States there is an outbreak of measles. People need to vaccinate their kids. I was vaccinated as a child why would i refuse it for my own child.

To me vaccinations is good for for protecting them against diseases but the thing is here in abroad it is too much baby here get vaccines almost every month and it's not something easy for parent cuz most babies get high fever, slept night etc which left many parent kind of worried that why is it so and why is it compulsory to extend that before you enroll ur baby in creches u must present the certificate and also the rate of autism is alarming these days..The thing tire person jare.

Eyah, my Baby got 2 immunisations on Friday and I felt so bad when he was crying. He didn’t like the calpol either. Your makeup to gt looked really nice. I don’t like using my baby carrier. You tried o, carrying Tiara, it was even too much for me.

Not all the vaccination has been there, when we where born in the 80s ,there was no mmr vaccination. Am a mother of 4 ,my first son has a bit of learning disability ,when he was born,I had no knowledge about autism, he got all his immunizations at the right time, and he also reached his milestones on time,he walked at 10 months when he was one year,he started babbling, saying few words until he was vaccinated for mmr,my son slowly started losing all his words to a point he couldn't say a single word and not even pointing, my point is we are all different what that works for you might not work for other person,it could be genetic factors that contributed to my sons situation, mind you he was the only one that had the Mmr vaccine because he was my first child,my other 3 kids didn't get the Mmr vaccine and they are fine,no problem with them and what I did for my kids was to space their immunizations instead of having their immunizations within the first 3 month ,I spaced it to a year.sorry for long story
