Yes indeed, fully remastered, can be seen for a new generation who want to study their work, include the home video picks of the week/laserdisc pick of the month, in their proper full screen format, and include the long lost reviews of films like A Goofy Movie, Unforgiven, and Con Air to name a few. One day perhaps... ^^

To recap, meh that is barely remembered, crap that is completely forgotten, BLOOD SIMPLE THE FIRST COEN BROTHERS AND FRANCIS MCDORMAND MOVIE, and more crap that is completely forgotten. It's so cool to see such a now classic movie reviewed originally. I'm glad they both got it right!

I always loved the intros of Siskel amd Ebert's shows where they show Siskel as the modern guy who has snacks in his briefcase and uses a computer while Ebert is old school where he rather write notes and use a typewriter. And yes, Vision Quest was an awesome film. Sorry, Gene and Raj, I liked Mischief.

I thought they were going to shred Vision Quest as a ripoff of Flashdance, but I was surprised. I love the film but I expected them to say it was shallow and slow paced.

Think of why these guys had chemistry. Roger Ebert was a nerdy bookworm. Gene Siskel was a frustrated wannabe jock. Two very different types of personalities who had very different reasons for being interested in movies. That's why their opinions clashed in so many different ways and why you could never predict if they would agree or not. If someone is going to put together a new movie review debate show, they need to find a similar clash in personalities for the leads. Siskel and Ebert were not two people who were likely to have been friends in high school. Too often people who end up doing these kinds of shows now are too similar to each other and too friendly to each other.

I don't think Ebert was a nerdy bookworm and Siskel a frustrated wannabe jock. They were two guys working for competing newspapers who loved movies and issues about them. Their chemistry built over time, when they started doing adlibbing and being able to understand how to operate on TV. Gene was a natural but Roger needed some time. They did have those years on PBS to burn off and refine their show so by the time it came to syndication, it was great to watch. I don't see how to duplicate that today. You need to build up time, which most people won't allow.

@@sha11235 They had different interests. Siskel was a lifelong basketball fan and did reporting on sports. Ebert was your classic nerd and talked about things like reading monster movie magazines as a kid. Remember how on the Letterman show, Ebert would chide Siskel for never going to film festivals like Ebert did? Ebert was a fanboy for movies but Siskel was a devoted sports fan in his downtime. Obviously Ebert's reviews are preferred by nerdy types today as Siskel thumbed down a lot of sci-fi and cult classics. I believe Siskel was the far more competitive one and this caused Ebert to react to try to hold his ground against him. A Slate article describing them as frenemies said they would fight at every taping to redo the review segment if one of them took more time out of the segment than the other did. This is a quote from the article: "Given the types of people they were, they never would have chosen each other as friends."

That the thing about being a critic is more about giving something a fair shot and seeing if it still holds up as well as being honest in your reviews than going full hate mode as it important to give some positive points as well as some constructive points on a film or a comic by seeing what potential it has and what could of been better

Timothy Hutton is an underated actor. He was pretty good but the story in this film could have been developed and written in a more thoughtful and interesting way.Matthew modine was also one of the top young actors at the time .Matthew was a wrestler in H.S so he brought that personal experience into the role/character and as a film i did not think was as formula driven as the critics thought.also had a good supporting cast .
