Racing with the moon is underrated 80’s film at its finest!

Just saw it for the first time in 30 years. I almost forgot what a beautifully made movie it was.

Not underrated at all. Known as a classic.

As a kid I loved romancing the stone. Such a good movie where I never got bored. Was this douglas big star making turn? I know he did some other movies before but I think this was his big one. It's great this movie was a hit bc it got back to the future green lit.

The term "romancing the stone" is jeweler's jargon for deciding how to cut and facet a gem for jewelry, so its not like the producers made it up.

my thought on the title is that douglas was romancing the stone away from turner.

"Romancing the Stone" is actually a great title. Today, it would probably just be called "Jungle" or "Jungle Adventure."'

Christopher Lambert later appeared in another film set in the wilds of Africa called White Material.

i don't know...i think they both missed that the turner character is a romance novel writter.

Always wondered if they ever discovered it was written in 1979 before Raiders!😅

Christopher Labert's best performance- the one where he doesn't speak! Btw, you idiots, you realize Kathleen Turner played a ROMANCE novelist and in the movie she and Michael Douglas share a ROMANCE. So it IS a perfect title.
@natalieps23873 жыл бұрын
Yes & devitos character even says basically the title " hes romancing the stone out front under you " it's a good part bc we start to wonder if jack is really into joan or scamming her .

"Greystoke" is realistic? Roger, I swear sometimes I wonder if you even saw the same movie I did. 😕

Romancing the Stone was written as a spec script before Raiders was a twinkle in Lucas’ and Spielberg’s eyes. So no, while the final film was certainly inspired by Raiders, Stone was not a rip-off.

The first half of Greystoke was exciting and fast moving. The second half was slow and the plot runs out of steam. As one critic points out, the film turns into Tarzan Meets Upstairs Downstairs. And why does Tarzan get so upset when his grandfather dies of old age??? Christopher Lambert said that for a longtime whenever he'd go out somewhere's someone would shout out the Hollywood Tarzan yell. Lambert was the only Tarzan star to become well known for another role (Highlander).

Can't believe he called RTS a Raiders rip off! It's was a totally different vibe AND the script was written in 1978!

As much as I loved this show growing up, when the guys got it wrong, boy, did they stink up the room! Romancing the Stone is a great title for a movie. It's hot and happening, like Kathleen Turner & Michael Douglas together. "Death of the Green Jewel, " Jungle Fever," give me a break--rotflmao.😂

I don’t always agree with Gene, but I think he’s right about Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan. It’s a beautifully filmed picture with great moments, and it holds strong for the first half with some magnificent ape makeup and performances. But as soon as they switch from the jungle to civilisation, and after Ralph Richardson isn’t in the film anymore, the story feels dragged-out, downbeat and unadventurous.

I was annoyed by how Siskel kept bringing up other movies during the Greystoke review. 2001 was going for something very different. I also disagree with their assertion that the 2nd half of the picture was less interesting. I enjoyed watching Tarzan try and fail to assimilate into society.
