I absolutely adore Half In The Bag, Mike and Jay are great, but I find, more often than not, they kind of just agree on everything. There are exceptions, I thought the Solo episode had a great split POV with them and Rich, but most of time, Mike and Jay just goof on huge blockbusters.

Yes agree with you 100 percent. These two men made Saturday early evenings so enjoyable. I saw them both in person, at a Chicago Post Office, and Roger was having a package weighed, while Gene was waiting, and Gene looked over and smiled in a cheerful way. They both seemed really nice, even in a Post Office!

The turn Macauley Culkin took in The Good Son shows his versatility as an actor. A Bronx Tale is an amazing film and it's a terrible shame that Lillo Brancato made such bad life choices that got him imprisoned later in life and My Girl is so sweet and the end is so damn sad that it's still hard for me to watch decades later.

I've seen Dazed 'n Confused multiple times and it never occurred to me that the hazing perpetrated by the upper class onto the freshmen can be seen as young people inheriting rituals and practices (a whole system really) that is not really of their making. And just as the fresh fish are forced to undergo these rites of passage, the graduates will be channeled through the peculiar and painful passages of the social system known as adulthood. Great take, thanks S&E!

I'm with S&E on The Good Son....that is to say, how in the hell could Kit Culkin have read that screenplay and said to himself, "Yeah, this is just the kind of movie I want my kids to be starring in. This role is just right for Mac." Probably Mac read it and saw it as an opportunity to do something different, more adult-oriented, but really, the people who were helping Mac to guide his career should've strongly advised him against playing that role. It hurt his image, badly.
@aurorauplinks
@aurorauplinks 4 жыл бұрын
its a haunting movie and very tragically sad, but he did play the role very well, but kids shouldnt play that role, but i guess he did do it greatly and i guess what he really needed was a role where he helped a scientist to build a time machine... i was refering to back to the future but yet, career choices could help too.... or just to go back in time and invest in apple or microsoft early on

My only problem with S&E discussions about movies such as "A Bronx Tale" is that their arguments about mobsters and "regular" Italians make them both appear to accept the movie portrayals of these groups as fact--it's fiction.Apparently,their only exposure to many groups of people,is in the movies.

Well, Roger usually took the moral high ground when it comes to movies he really hated. They've included ethnic stereotypes (North), portrayals of teenage treatment of women (Porky's), or slasher movies (I Spit on Your Grave). Occasionally such topics can be done well with better scripts. In the case of "The Good Son", I think Gene's criticisms have more validity. In its own world, the movie was poorly written, with nobody acting with much common sense or logic, and we don't learn why Culkin behaves so evilly. That's why the movie was bad, IMO, and not because of the subject matter. I don't really blame Culkin or his agents for taking on a challenging role, but he needed a movie with a better script.

My big problem with The Good Son is that, just for the sake of the plot, nobody believes Mark about Henry when he's just so obviously evil. Are they telling me that an experienced child psychologist can't see through that little monster? And that Henry's parents never noticed anything odd about him before Mark came to stay with them? What about his teachers, his coaches? Psychopathy isn't the kind of thing you can turn on and off. If Henry really was that crazy, not just some people but _everybody_ would've seen it.

Gene did something here that has always irritated me when he was talking about that Football film , i see people do it all the time with genre films. he basically said he didnt like it and Roger talks about some scene he did like and Gene says he saw the same thing done better in this other film about the same thing he just watched. just because one genre film is better doesnt mean other ones cant still be good. because a similar film was better doesnt mean another film cannot still be a good film. if you like something who wants to only have one of it.

the good son is the kind of film that could have improved its hard to watch culkin play a bad character had this film been made differently, it would have had been lighter and fun, still R, maybe a PG-13 , but on a level that a teen who apparently loves action pictures like die hard with bruce willis would want the dna of that film rubbed off on the good son had it gone in a more happier and positive route with characters that you actually root for

-Dazed and Confused was really my school years as a teenager in the 90s. The guy captured teenagers so well even though I wasn't there in the 70s. The only thing that did not exist was the whole being slapped around bit. -The Good Son is not usually my type of stuff but it was a solid thriller. Roger could be so elitist and dismissive sometime: "I wonder for what people this movie was made for". The same that liked "the Hand that Rocks the Cradle". Women love this kind of stuff. The sort of true crime stuff, esp, involving children. Everytime it showed on TV, my mom was like transfixed to the screen. lol -Bronx Tale wasn't bad but it was recycled Italian street/crime with cliches. It was a bunch of stuff we had seen before and done better on Goodfellas, etc..The way the story is told hearing the narrator and so forth way pretty much rip-off from Goofellas. There was not much originality to the story.

@Respect/Walk so when you watch a movie you base it in what the actors have done in their personal life? For one I disagree with what Lillo Brancato was apart of but it happened long after the movie was made and he wasn't even the shooter for one thing. Another thing if a movie is good a movie is good what an actor who was in the movie did outside of the film in their life should have no bearing on if you watch the film lol. I cannot stand people like that.....like you.....fucking idiot lmao.

6 months ago i would have been sympathetic to any circumstance that involved racism...however...the recent incidents involving the black community supporting first bloom-bug...who ran totally racist programs against nyc's blacks...and then the total embracing of senile joe biden...who not only was the most vocal supporter of racists in the entire dem party...but actually has fought his entire life to insure blacks and other minorities be put in jail....with no hopes beyond serving as harsh a sentence as possible. blacks embracing such men demonstrate that they are totally at ease with and do not believe racism against them to be a bad thing..other wise they would have voted for bernie sanders who chained himself to black women fighting for equal rights 50 years ago!... so..since racism is no longer an issue to blacks i would be pretty foolish to argue it is.... on the other hand....A BRONX TALE....is a good movie...i like the people .i like the dialogue and i understand what Sonny...is telling C....especially the part of "nobody cares"......that is the realization most people live their whole life never understanding.....then can never figure out ......why they feel so alone....

IT IS A GANGSTER Classic...Always thought Siskel was a jealous ANTI Catholic bigot. THIS IS A WELL Directed Movie by Martin Scorcese, well written, and well acted by ALL those involved; riveting. Ebert was right , great movie that has stood the test of time as a great story and movie. So many PTBs in Hollywood who "happen to be Jewish" and who fawned after fellow Jews in the biz "sometimes" unjustly ( Spielberg who I lioke but even Babe Ruth Struck out a few times, WEINTERIN the sexist predator PIG, etc.) FOR YEARS have attacked Catholic or non Jew genius directors. It would be years before OUT OF GUILT and growing public resentment that JEWISH dominated Hollywood finally was "forced" to give Scorcese the OSCAR/ Academy Award that he has truly deserved "arguably" at least 5-6 times! Ouch, but true. CASE CLOSED.

A Bronx Tale is good the first time you see it and then not so much after that. The young black lady was a dreadful actress.

Bronx Tale was a totally lame movie. The Program was fantastic for its time. Need to watch it again to see how well it holds up.
