Gene: "...It has not been a good summer for movies so far". Roger: "Pretty slow going, maybe we'll do better next week". Coming up next week: Spike Lee's " Do The Right Thing" I just like that worked out.

I agree with Siskel on Dead Poet’s Society, I could never side with Ebert on this one. DPS is a classic.

But then you don't agree with Siskel. You say that it's a classic, but Siskel balks at it being considered in the same league as The Paper Chase, for example, saying that Dead Poets Society is instead a "small, little film."

DPS is not even close to being a "classic." As the guys say it is WAAYY too formulaic. And Robin Williams just repeats his schtick in a bit more dramatic role. It didn't work for Good Morning Vietnam either. The fact that DPS was nominated for best picture and Do The Right Thing wasn't just shows how formulaic the Academy had become.

We read the screen play for dead poets society in my high school. I'm not so sure the other movies and teachers mentioned are remembered as fondly today.

Star Trek V was saved by the Jerry Goldsmith music score and Shatner's chemistry with Nimoy and Kelley. Sybok's chance to "meet God" was ruined by a "false deity".

1989, one of Hollywood's best years for making summer dollars, the best since 1984. Even Dead Poets Society grossed over $100 million. As did Honey I Shrunk The Kids! Also, Indy 3, Batman, Lethal Weapon 2, Ghostbusters 2, Back To The Future 2, Bond, Star Trek, something for everyone.

Since 1984? I think 1982 is generally considered the best summer for movies. But yeah, 1989 even had the classic "Road House!!"

Something for everyone, except for cinephiles. Just typical 80's corporate tat.

When a kid walks out of a movie, that is saying something. I wasn't born when "No Holds Barred" came out but I would have loved to see that child just leave, lol.

Who searched for Star Trek V? 😂 I’m surprised they were so harsh on DPS.
