Everyone bitching about the quality of this: Upload a better one if you have it! Jesus. Be thankful someone at least kept this footage and displayed it for you/us. It’s from a VCR from 26 years ago - it’s not perfect, but it’s still good enough to watch and appreciate.

I love the quality of the video. Why? Because I grew up in the 90s and having a VCR representation of S&E reviewing a 90's comedy classic takes me back in layers!

One of the few times Ebert circled back, in print, and gave this film 4- stars after his initial 3-star review.
@Salman-Zaki8 жыл бұрын
Yes. I can't believe he gave The Godfather Part II 3 stars in his original review.
@linernotesthemovie8 жыл бұрын
Eh. It wasn't disliked right away, though I'm not sure if Ebert ever circled back to it. It certainly was not celebrated like parts I and II, but it took a few months for critics and the culture at large to look back and say, "you know--this really wasn't good." And the reviews collected on RT are still mostly positive. That said there are films that Ebert loves (3.0 stars or above) that few others enjoy. IE Joe vs. The Volcano.

I was talking about Part II, not Part III.

I don't even think that these guys, who both loved it, foresaw the lasting social impact of this classic. They now "teach" this in high schools and colleges when examining existentialism, purpose,morality etc. Everyone involved made it work but I think this is both Harold Ramis' and Bill Murray's Opus regardless if it wasn't as popular as Ghostbusters at the time.

How disappointing that they merely liked this brilliant film, which is a minor masterpiece in its own way. They should have raved about it. They appreciated it, but seem to have missed its real magic.

I must have imagined this, but I thought the popular opinion of this movie was that it was utter shit and that I was one of the few people who actually enjoyed it. But now that I look it up, I see that _most_ people, including Siskel and Ebert, liked it too. I'm not sure if I should feel vindicated by this fact or disappointed that my taste in movies isn't as unique as I thought.

Of course this movie has gotten much better esteem all the years later. Ebert is more reserved in his praise here as was Leonard Maltin both giving it 3 stars for years. But years later the movie got better for both of them. Maltin later gave it 3.5 stars and Ebert gave it a full four. It really does get better with repeat viewings.
