How can you give Mickey’s Christmas Carol 2 thumbs down, and Return of Jafar 2 thumbs up? Admit it, guys, you just didn’t like good movies. Besides, if you know the Charles Dickens story, you know the majority of the story revolves around Scrooge.

Honestly I love Mickey's Christmas Carol, it's a wonderful movie and a perfect version of A Christmas Carol that kids would enjoy. My only complaint of the movie was having Goofy play Jacob Marley. I love Goofy, but I just can't see him as a villain, as he is so loveable and funny, and Jacob Marley is really supposed to be scary and serious. I really would have casted Goofy as Fezzywig, Scooge's old employer as it would be a more suitable and better role for Goofy. As for Jacob Marley, I would have casted Crazy Pete as him, as Pete would be more believable for the role, I know they used Pete as The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and he did a phenomenal job with that, but I also think he would have played a great Jacob Marley too. Other than that I loved this film and would give it an enthusiastic thumbs up.
@ericburns91322 жыл бұрын
My father gave an interesting point of why Goofy was cast as Jacob Marley, it's because Marley is known for making screams and yelps which Goofy is known for making, which while it does make sense I still can't see Goofy as villain.

Giving Mickey's Christmas Carol 2 thumbs down? Bah, humbug. Only problem I had with it is Scrooge's sister, Fan isn't in it and it doesn't have the part where Scrooge is watching his nephew, Fred and his family enjoying Christmas. I think I'm more nitpicking than anything.

@nickperkins84773 жыл бұрын
I think they read “Mickey’s” in the title a little too literally. And, possibly as early Baby Boomers, they had a special fan interest in the character Mickey Mouse.
@summerjonz10 ай бұрын
That's the thing: This was hyped as Mickey's big comeback when he's barely in it. The one and only CR Martin said it best: 'If Disney was REALLY intent on bringing Mickey back after a several decade hiatus, they should have gone for a much ballsier move like runaway brain. But oh well... That's just wishful thinking...'

I agree with S&E on Striptease. It's worth seeing if only once for how good Demi Moore looks in it. But man, did they blow it on Mickey's Christmas Carol. People didn't want to see something different. They wanted to see the classic story played out by Mickey and the rest of the Disney cartoon cast. It is exactly what it is supposed to be.

I haven't seen Mickey's Christmas Carol, but watching this review may tend to make people sad to see both Gene & Roger gave thumbs down to a retelling of Dicken's A Christmas Carol featuring some of the best loved Disney characters from the last 50 years prior to this review.

Christmas wasn't Christmas untill I watched this as a child with a glass of egg nog after my mom gave me a bath and put me in my pajamas. The memories that this classic holds dear to me proves, that the opinions of some over weight grey haired adults literally means NOTHING when it comes to a show meant for kids. No kids care about how often Mickey was involved. No kids care about anything they talked about. It's actually laughable hearing these idiots talk about this.
@staggmovie4 жыл бұрын
Where they disappointed because Mickey Mouse's name is in the title, but he is not playing the lead character. As Scrooge is really the lead character of him, and not Bob Crachit. Get it that it was only 25 minutes long, but why did they bother to see it. Plus who else could you have play Scrooge then Scrooge McDuck?

Yeah, this was pretty weak. Disney would have not softened the harder edges of the story and it would have been longer. Also, a little factoid, this marked the final time Clarence Nash performed the voice of Donald Duck.

Sadly enough, I have to agree with them. I used to like this when I was younger, but it was, I think, the first version of A Christmas Carol I had ever seen, and they took a great deal of shortcuts through this. They didn't show Scrooge in school when he was younger, they didn't show too much with Mickey's family, even as the Cratchits that they had shown in the other versions. They did not show Scrooge at his nephew's place. A great deal of short cuts and stuff not shown. I liked other versions of A Christmas Carol, but when I look back on this one, I now say that it was too short. Also, Scrooge McDuck did not seem to be as mean as Scrooge usually is in the rest of the versions. He just seems to be miserly, but not overly mean. He is a comical type of mean.
@Campbellzilla3 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. Yes I think the short could've benefited greatly from being expanded to feature length, but as an introductory point to the story for younger audiences I think it does quite well making the story approachable and maintaining the core and Alan Young is really good as Scrooge McDuck. But I understand your stance and there are better incarnations of the story, but there are also worse ones as well
@chrisfinch8637 Жыл бұрын
Just when you thought Roger was going to go against Gene's review, but no! He wasn't impressed with the film, either! It might've been surprising to me, that they both gave it a thumbs down, after I've seen the film a handful of times, as a kid, but in the end, I truly can't go against their own opinions about that film, even if I remember seeing that Gene also went against a re-release of "Sleeping Beauty", a few years before this. Even so, Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, are still missed, to this day, no matter what their past reviews were like.

mickeys christmas carol is a classic you would think that, if they had released more specials like it for television when they released aladdin and lion king they wouldve capitialized on aladdin and lion king by having mickey and other toons be in more tv specials during that holiday release period for 92 for aladdin and 94 for lion king when it was put back in theaters during the holidays

The more I watch these two the more I question their appeal. Their criticism is not constructive, it's pedantic and immature. And seeing how loved Mickey's Christmas Carol is, these two are out of touch with the audience. They're hailed like the Holy Bible, like their word is law, but really these two were hacks.
