The movie has not one, but two of the greatest scenes at least of that decade. The Sicilian scene is beyond epic, and the Alabama fight scene, which shows a younger James Gandolfini's star quality. @jk-4743 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmorgan3212 That’s actually correct as far as I know, the only difference otherwise was the ending, where Clarence originally died and Alabama admits that she didn’t love him and was playing him, and she hitchhikes at the end. That original ending was recorded when Tony Scott directed the film, but he changed it to the one we got which is MUCH better. Quentin’s even agreed on camera that he actually likes the change. It IS Quentin’s film, Tony Scott SCREAMED that like Howard Deusch did with John Hughes’s script, “The Great Outdoors” 😎👍🏻

@@jk-474 Wow I never knew that, I knew Tony Scott had changed the ending so that Clerence didn't die but I never knew Alabama had originally admitted she was playing him. Honestly I think if they would've gone with that the film would not have resonated with me as much as it did. I always felt the movie was kinda like a Romeo and Juliet kind of story that deals with young impulsive love, honestly that ending wouldn't have made sense since Alabama almost gets killed for Clarence at the hotel. On the case of how the film is structured I think Tony Scotts approach for a more traditional structure I think really benefits the film. The film has this really fast paced energy were it never feels like it slows down and always keeps you wanting more while never overstaying it's welcome. Truly a masterpiece in filmmaking and I love how it's appreciated just as much as QTs other films.

True Romance was such a fun film that decades later people are still giving it praise. This is probably one of Siskel and Ebert's biggest blunders in their entire careers. They brushed this film off as if it was some sort of cheap teenage boy fantasy flick when the reality is it's one of the most fun movies of the 90's. James Gandolfini was basically unknown to general audiences at the time and yet even he delivered a great performance. This movie had it all (Including a Brad Pitt playing the stoner on the couch.) The simple fact that Siskel and Ebert could not see this only demonstrates that critics should only be taken so seriously.

RIP Siskel and Ebert. I've seen True Romance a lot and I love it. If I was Siskel's age when I saw it, I probably would not like it as much. I still think the color and excitement Ebert refers to has lasted all these years later. It is a good early example of Tarantino's ADHD sort of story telling. SPOILER ALERT: My least favorite thing about the film, as with about half if not more of Tarantino scripts, is the big blow out/Mexican standoff ending. On first viewing, it's captivating. Overtime it feels like overkill. But the performances, even from actors who seem like they could have been day players, are just great. Even in that Mexican standoff scene, for example, notice the cop who gets shot and sits down on the couch with tears coming out of his eyes. That performance is so good, and it didn't have to be. Wonderful performances and great ideas are overflowing in True Romance. It's the movie that I introduce a lot of people to because they haven't heard of it. It's the only "Tarantino" movie that he didn't direct (RIP Tony Scott), and what I mean is that it almost feels like Tarantino directed parts of it. I think that's a credit to Tony Scott really capturing the spirit of these characters and the energy of Tarantino's world. Funny, I think Scott tapped into that "world" as a director before Tarantino did. I know there's a big Reservoir Dogs fan base out there, and I still respect that film. But I prefer the ride True Romance takes me on so much more. Dogs has not aged as well for me, and some of that must be due to it being Tarantino's first film and TR having Scott, who by that point was already a seasoned director and arguably in his prime. It always makes me wish they collaborated more. I know Crimson Tide was their second collaboration, but that movie does not have that QT feel. It feels more like they were subduing their louder artistic voices, perhaps for the better in that case. Thanks for posting!

It’s certainly not the only Tarantino movie he didn’t direct. Tarantino wrote Natural Born Killers too, and even though Oliver Stone rewrote bits of the script, all the best dialogue bits are in the original Tarantino script. The point of this is to show how outdated two of the highly respected movie critics are out of touch

A masterpiece. You are both wrong.

I shouldn't speak ill of the dead but Siskel seemed to dislike some of the best movies.

The tarentino script and cast was the only savior of the flick. The direction editing and score made me almost not finish it. Very sloppy on those three

These guys are on the money. And the nasty responses in the comment sections only prove their points.

What is your point? There are many adults with adolescent tendencies. You could be eighty seven, but what is your point?

What movie were they going to review later then?

Siskel was a prick - Ebert said after knowing him for years, he was no more friendly than what you see on the show.
@NovaFeedback19792 жыл бұрын
Ebert and Siskel starter out not liking each other in the early days of their show in the seventies. They grew close over the decades. Ebert talks about all of this in his autobiography. So what you are saying is false.

The fact that people can get paid for their shitty opinions blows my mind. Critics are worse than telemarketers.

Just A Couple Of OLD GROUCHES Out Of Touch With Youngsters. If you don't believe me czech out the review for The Road Warrior and Mad Max 3 Beyond the Thunderdome . The critics hated The Road Warrior so to make up for it they heaped mountains of praise on Thunderdome. I will never forgive them until I get back my $5.00 adjusted for inflation of course

One of the very few negative reviews this movie got.......
@brucewallner67535 ай бұрын
I agree the movie was and still is brilliant. In many many ways Gene Sickel, an idiot and Roger neighbor doesn’t know ass from third base amazing how politics perhaps gets into the evaluation. These guys were never good to begin with.

This is pathetic, I wonder if they were paid to “like” movies.

True Romance is a amazing film these two dinosaurs had no clue what they were talking about. They are the type of jag offs who like old boring films.

ebert liked the movie bro
@micberisha6938 жыл бұрын
+bob polo He liked as a "Teenage fantasy" type movie. It's like saying that you thought a movie was bad but had good parts here and there.
@bobpolo29648 жыл бұрын
Mic Berisha but it is like a fantasy film and ebert said he's judging the film on its own terms..don't tell me you think true romance was realistic?
@micberisha6938 жыл бұрын
+bob polo Well it's a film and most films aren't. That's why suspension of disbelief is so vital for watching and enjoying them. True Romance is an amazing film simply because of the acting and dialouge
