That and it was good at showing how they troubleshoot problems. The Federation wanted to maintain the wormhole despite the very real threat of the Dominion. The Romulans agreed they were a threat, and wanted to eliminate the possibility of ever facing them - whatever the cost, even if it involved the deaths of innocent people. Sure the station wasn't full of Romulans - but they likely wouldn't have cared to do the same thing even if it was. Shows a cold logic similar to the very Vulcans they separated from.

I know it's 5 months later but.... My theory was that Q felt more from that punch than that of a mere human. I'm pretty sure Q would of figured out fairly quickly that Sisko was half prophet. The prophets exist outside of time so in theory it would be pretty easy for them to appear far in the past before the Q had powers and just eliminate them from existence. Not even the Q continuum would want to open that can of worms.
