Dear sir But how will data gets shifted and whats the necessary of clock??? Does clock goes to 0 simultaneously with input signal so that data gets latched in first flip flop only. Since D flip flop is transparent the input signal should move to all 4 flip flop simultaneously.

Hi To store n bit data in shift register you need n pulses of the clock; whereas to take out n bit data you need n-1 pulses of clock. What is the reason for the diference? thanks

You can use negative clock pulse but as in d flip flop the invalid portion of bits is never allowed hence by default we used positive edge triggering.
