I love how alma turned the wrong way, and had irritation, but didn't stop singing. That shows genuine things that can happen in choir, you do your cue wrong, but don't let it get to you. I bet it was an actual blooper

This my favorite because so many sisters get to sing separate parts. It’s hard to believe that it would take a movie to show how great nuns could sing in a more modern style.

What a timely moment to bring back this favorite. Many of us have had limited access to our home churches in the last few years. The national and international current events are enough to make us seek some kind of comfort. These women certainly deliver with this song.

The world is suffering from a lack of spirituality that results in corruption exposed by the corona virus. This is because especially in the Western world people have turned away from traditional religion deeply rooted in thousands of years of human experience for superficial secular religions such as environmentalism, feminism and socialism. These secular religions only express the ephemeral values of a materialistic society that is constantly subject to change and relative morality not based on the transcendent spiritual wisdom of the ages. As the Bible says “ they are blown about by winds of change” therefore rootless in any sense of lasting moral virtue and thus subject to constant reinterpretation and venal corruption by people who have no genuine sense of morality.

These movies were such a breath of fresh air. I went to a Catholic NUN run highschool. Our Nun - Sister Ronan Katherine was a rebel like Whoopie. Our religion classes consisted of listening to current rock artists, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkle , etc. Sister would print out the words, play the song, then discuss the lyrics, possible hidden meanings, etc. the Power musicians could make with their fame and music. All the other Nuns hated her, all the other classes were jealous of our Class. Well, the ArchDiaces got forced her by Xmas tine, She could serve God better with a different job. She was barely 5 years older than us. The whole thing was some what remincent of Sister Act. She was the most profound teacher I have had. She made it a point to connect and connunicate with rambling and unfoces minds of freshmen. We would often get some 'trouble students' who had been kicked out of regular schools.. Those nuns did not take any this was back in the day when teachers and Nuns could slap you with a ruler. Also the extremely talented Marc Shaimen did a brilliant job on the arrangements. Perfect.

i go to a cathedral school, and the music there is very traditional and choral with hymns and organ music on the whole. however the school has many choirs, bands, orchestras and other music groups. so in our services we have gospel choir followed by string quartet followed by Indian drums followed by Symphony orchestra followed by chamber choir followed by jazz ensemble followed by blues group followed by steel pans followed by glee club. its really fun and all the cathedral residents love hearing the different types of music played by our school. it also means at a school where everyone plays music, playing with your friends can be really interesting. i'm a classical cellist but other friends of mine are jazz pianists, pop bassists, tuned orchestral percussion players, blues singers, choristers, opera singers, folk violinists, accordian players, etc

Watch Mary Wickes (Sister Mary Lazurus) at 1:50. She clearly missed her cue to turn around and looks very angry and even throws her hands down in disgust. In fairness to Mary, it was probably shot after a long day and she was 82 years old at the time. She most likely thought this take would not wind up in the final cut.
